With this option, your pet is cremated privately at a licensed crematory. Other arrangements are possible (please inquire) or made available directly from the crematory.
This option is for families that don't wish to have their pet's ashes returned nor wish to bury at home. Pets are respectfully cremated with other pets at a licensed crematory and ashes are scattered on private property.
There may be a fee of $50 if additional assistance to safely carry your pet out of your home is needed.
We are here to answer your questions every day, from 7am - 11pm. Appointments are scheduled throughout the week, please call for availability.
Sometimes, pets take a turn for the worse overnight, so we do our best to accommodate same day appointments with a few hours notice when possible.
If this is a medical emergency, please contact your local veterinarian or one of the emergency clinics listed in the Local Resources section.
Laura Porta, DVM
I grew up in the small Northern Michigan town of Gaylord. We had many dogs and cats when I was growing up, whom I loved from afar because I was severely allergic to them! Thankfully, I grew out of my allergies and was able to pursue a career involving my love for animals. I attended Michigan State University for my undergraduate work and veterinary school and achieved my dream in 2001. I practiced small animal medicine in the area, including clinics in Kalamazoo, the eastern Detroit area, and Howell, where I was able to help, heal and treat my furry clients.
While working in one small animal practice, we were getting several requests for in home euthanasias, and I was wiling to help. As I started to perform in home euthanasias, I found it was such an honor and privilege to help clients with their beloved pets in their home. To allow a pet to remain in the comfort of their home, surrounded by their loving family for their final moments was a feeling I can't describe.
Although I found myself drawn to helping families for end of life care, I understand the enormity of this decision as a pet parent. I had to endure the heartbreaking decision-making process as a pet parent with our dog, Quimby. Even though I'm a veterinarian, I'm also a pet parent, so I felt the anxiety and helplessness of making this difficult decision. I hope I can bring you some comfort and assurance that this decision can be your last gift to your pet. I performed Quimby's euthanasia at home with my family hugging him and loving on him as he took his final breath.
I have a wonderful husband, two beautiful children and share our loving home with a myriad of pet children including our crazy German Shorthaired Pointer, named Monty, who can't sit still. We also have two cats, named Frodo and Jess, who love to lounge in the sun on the screened-in porch as I read, which is how I love to spend my time.
Thank you so much for your support, kindness, and gentleness! Lindsay and I appreciate it more than you will ever know. You provided us the perfect atmosphere to say goodbye to our beloved Spartygirl. The special touches you provided were so thoughtful and went above and beyond anything we expected. Thank you so much for the lifelong memory you created for our family!!"

Thank you, and your staff. I have no words for how wonderful you made this difficult decision. From the moment my phone call was answered, to the time you showed up and had to listen to my father's bad jokes. I made this decision before....but never, NEVER, have I felt so much empathy and sincere care. YOU, Dr. Laura, have already gained YOUR angel wings.....Thank you."

"I just wanted to say THANK YOU to Dr. Laura for all that she did for Kota and to help him in his final moments, and to help me not be a basket case thru all of this. She was so caring and she explained everything to me and when she came for her Initial Consultation, just sat next to him and petted him the whole time. Well not like she had a choice. If she stopped, she got "THE LOOK", lol Thank you once again Dr. Laura and I will forever be grateful to you and Laps of Love."

"Dr. Laura was a gift! She not only is professional, she is knowledgeable, caring, and respected Cheeto and us as we went through this terribly difficult decision. I would recommend her and use her again if the opportunity presented itself. Thank you Dr. Laura! hugs"

"I just want to say what a meaningful gathering we had in our home, Dec. 3, 2016, and how thankful I am to Lap of Love, and Dr. Laura Porta. Our cat Elliot was made very comfortable, and we had plenty of time to reminisce, pet him, share stories, share memories, laugh and cry. There was a sense of peace, and Dr. Laura, was kind, compassionate and patient. There was no rush. My family and I are very thankful to Lap of Love, and to you Dr. Laura for making a sad time so memorable.~ The Walker family."

"Dr. Laura Porta, Larry and I want to thank you again for helping our beautiful and loving Juliet receive her Angel Wings that she so rightfully deserved. When you came into the room where our furbaby was laying I hoped that Juliet would jump up and bark you right out the door letting us know she wasn't ready to go anywhere. Unfortunately, she could hardly bark let alone get up. You could tell how much pain she was in when I didn't want to believe it. We are so greatful to you for helping our Juliet move on and be pain free and for assuring Larry and I we were doing the right for her. It's the hardest decision for anyone to make for their faithful companion as you know. I wish we hadn't met under such circumstances but I'm glad it was you who helped our baby. You are an amazing person, and I'm so happy there are people like you who love animals so much and you do whatever you need to do to help them. Thanks again.
Kim and Larry"
