With this option, your pet is cremated privately at a licensed crematory. The ashes are contained in a lovely rosewood urn (optional engraved nameplate) and will be returned to your primary care veterinarian within two weeks. They can also be made available directly from the crematory.
This option is for families that don't wish to have their pet's ashes returned nor wish to bury at home. Pets are respectfully cremated with other pets at a licensed crematory and ashes are scattered by the crematory.
There may be a fee if addtional assistance to safely carry your pet out of your home is needed.
We are here to answer your questions every day, from 7am - 11pm. Appointments are scheduled throughout the week, please call for availability.
Sometimes, pets take a turn for the worse overnight, so we do our best to accommodate same day appointments with a few hours notice when possible.
If this is a medical emergency, please contact your local veterinarian or one of the emergency clinics listed in the Local Resources section.
Jennifer Vencil, DVM
My name is Dr. Jennifer Vencil. I am a graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary medicine. I have recently moved to St. Augustine, Florida with my husband and our pets (a Boston Terrier, a Florida Brown Dog, two cats, and two chinchillas). As a veterinarian and a pet owner myself I know how pets can become a member of the family. I grew up in Ocala, Florida and even as a child always developed very strong human-animal bonds with my pets. When I decided I wanted to become a veterinarian my family members and friends would always say, "but then you have to put animals to sleep!" Even I considered this a negative part of the career I wanted to pursue until I started actually working with a veterinarian in a small animal hospital. Witnessing euthanasias made me realize how important this part of a veterinarian's job is. It is something that must be done with the utmost care and compassion. Being able to share the final moments with an owner and their beloved pet is an honor and I strive to make the experience a comfortable and peaceful one. "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." - Anatole France
"WOW incredible service and phenomenal staff. NOt something you think about everyday but good to know there are exceptional professionals to help in your time of need. Dr Jennifer Vencil assisted us twice this year with two of our beloved but elderly pups. Its a sad day indeed when you make the decision to do the right thing for your best friends but comforting to know they are getting the best of care in their final hour. Truly a professional organization, top shelf staff and a necessary service. Thanks to all of you !"

"She was the best! She made you feel as though she knew my dog. She made me feel like I was doing the correct thing for him."

"We can't thank Dr. Jennifer enough for her kindness and empathy during a very difficult time for us. Our English Mastiff Titan was put to sleep gently and painlessly. Dr. Jennifer was patient and understanding while completely professional. I would recommend Lap of Love to anyone facing the end of a loving pet's life. Thank you so much, Dr. Jennifer!"

"One of the hardest things I ever did in my life was helped by a very kind and respectful lady who showed her love for pets and their owners .I would recommend her to anyone that was in my situation.Plus she even made me smile a few times while listening to my stories."

"Our wonderful Lab/Golden mix, Sam, was twelve and one half, blind, had dementia and stiff back legs. He loved to eat, still had all facilities, but was losing quality of life. We called Lap of Love and Jennifer Vencil, DVM, in St. Augustine came to our house. She was so amazing. Gentle, patient and loving. We had Sam lick his frozen yogurt while she administered a tranquilizer. He finished his yogurt and gentle took a nap. She said he could still hear us and we petted and loved on him. We waited for our son to arrive and all of us got to love him. She asked if we were ready, and we were. He looked just like he was taking his nap. Dr. Jennifer said it was the perfect time. He still had his dignity, but it was just time. I would always use this organization. They are in many counties and different states. I usually would not do this, but please DO NOT use Sophie O'Neill. She says she is a mobile vet in St. John's County. She was horrible, gave wrong info, made us wait and was terribly rude. I am so glad I hung up on her and found Lap of Love."

"Gryffin has been such a huge part of our lives for the past 14 years, and we will MISS him so much. This was the first time we have ever had to make this choice for our pets. It was not easy, but Dr. Jennifer and the staff at Lap of love were so supportive, kind, patient and understanding, they made this process a little easier. I cannot say enough kind words about them. Thank you again for all of your support and kind words during this difficult time."
