With this option, your pet is cremated privately at a licensed crematorium and returned in a cedar box. The cremains (ashes) will be ready in approximately 10-14 days and delivered to you by Dr. Kendra or they can be certified mailed to your home. Please speak to the vet directly for more information.
This option is for families that don't wish to have their pet's ashes returned nor wish to bury at home. Pets are respectfully cremated with other pets at a licensed crematory and ashes are scattered by the crematory.
There may be a fee if additional assistance to safely carry your pet out of your home is needed.
Appointments are scheduled throughout the week, please call for availability. For appointments nearer to Louisville, please call our doctor in that area: 502-443-0339. Sometimes, pets take a turn for the worse overnight, so we do our best to accommodate same day appointments with a few hours notice when possible. If this is a medical emergency, please contact your local veterinarian or refer to our local resources section.
Let us introduce you to the amazing hospice veterinarians in your area.
Having been in general practice for over 25 years, I’ve had the joy of seeing many fluffy young babies become faithful and beloved companions. As they’ve aged, I have been there to help many of them live happy and healthy lives, long into their golden years. I truly believe that no one wishes to have their time end in an unfamiliar environment. Sharing those last moments in a favorite place, where both the pet and the owners are comfortable, should be available to everyone. This is why I have chosen to devote the remainder of my career to helping our furry friends live out their golden years comfortably in the warmth and love of their homes.
I became a vet in 1987, when I earned my degree from Ross University. I’ve wanted to be a veterinarian ever since I can remember. I’ve always loved animals, biology and just “icky” things, so it’s the perfect fit. I grew up in Cincinnati and have lived in South Florida as well as Colorado Springs. I am happy to be with family here in Lexington, and love being back in this part of the country where the grass is green.
I share my home with two house cats; Maui, the DSH who loves to spend her time in a bowl and Sparkle, the regal Bengal who prefers to be glued to a lap. The two cats earning their keep in the barn are James Bond and Pussy Galore along with 4 beloved horses who only sometimes earn their keep.

"It means the world to me that a service like this exists. My sweet girl got to cross the rainbow bridge at home surrounded by family and love.
Bella was diagnosed with liver failure at our local animal emergency hospital, she had acute anemia and had lost the ability to create blood clots. After being told that she had mere days left they put me in touch with Dr Kendra; who spend lots of time with me discussing Bella's condition and a plan for hospice care. Unfortunately, Bella went from good to distress in a couple of hours. Dr. Kendra was amazing. She was empathetic, quick to respond and did everything she could to keep Bella from suffering. The whole process was as peaceful as possible. I'm so thankful that an already stressful situation didn't have to become even more traumatic with another trip to the emergency room."

"Dr. Kendra visited our home April 19 to help us with our children's dog, Bell Pepper! Bell Pepper was an active member of The LeDoux Family in Mobile, Al for 9 years. As the family moved to Birmingham and a smaller yard, Bell came to live with us (the grandparents) on a temporary basis which lasted 6 years! She was a great dog! Her disposition was warm, gentle and so sweet with the other family members, neighbors and friends! Everyone loved her! She was well-behaved as well since she was living with "seniors!" As we saw her health decline and she was not herself, and after consultations with her regular Vet the decision was made to cross The Rainbow Bridge! Dr. Kendra was so compassionate, tender and sensitive to her and to us. She handled the entire visit with care and concern and Bell's passing seemed natural. Dr. Kendra has been in touch with us via phone and emails and we feel a sincere connection to her. My husband and I have unfortunately had to deal with this situation in the past and we prefer and recommend a home setting. We miss Bell dearly, she was a daily part of our life and her leaving is our loss!"

"Dr. Kendra was awesome and made a very difficult day much easier. She has a mild, delicate manner about her and is very soft spoken and reserved. She explained everything before she did anything so we would understand completely what was going to happen and when. She too is an animal owner and lover and shared stories with us to help put our minds at ease, although we knew it was the right time and the right decision. My summation is......IT WAS A PERFECT ENDING TO A PERFECT LIFE....and that perfect ending was ALL Dr. Kendra's doing....as I told her....."You must love your job, because you are awesome at it".....Thank You Dr. Kendra for who you are and what you do...."
"Dr. Kendra was absolutely amazing. She was patient and kind to me as I broke down on the phone asking for an appointment and her professionalism is beyond expectations. She gave comfort to me and my sweet Otis. As horrible as losing your best buddy is, she made it the most peaceful moment. I only wish we could all be so blessed, as to go out like that. I will always be grateful to her for her kind words and how she was so thoughtful and respectful to me and my dog. Thank you so much..xoxo"

"Our family is so grateful to have found Kendra. What a gifted, compassionate person! She helped us say good bye to Buster, our geriatric beagle, and then, sadly, a couple of weeks later, our elderly cat, Gusto. She handled our pets with utmost respect and gentleness, was truly interested in hearing about their lives, and helped us feel comfortable with the whole process. Thanks to Kendra, they both had peaceful deaths. She gave us the peace of mind that they didn't have to be traumatized with a trip to a veterinarian's office at the end of their lives, but could pass on peacefully at home. I very highly recommend Kendra Healy with Lap of Love."
