With this option, your pet is cremated privately at a licensed crematorium and returned in a cedar box. The cremains (ashes) will be ready in approximately 10-14 days and delivered to you by Dr. Kendra or they can be certified mailed to your home. Please speak to the vet directly for more information.
This option is for families that don't wish to have their pet's ashes returned nor wish to bury at home. Pets are respectfully cremated with other pets at a licensed crematory and ashes are scattered by the crematory.
There may be a fee if additional assistance to safely carry your pet out of your home is needed.
Appointments are scheduled throughout the week, please call for availability. Sometimes, pets take a turn for the worse overnight, so we do our best to accommodate same day appointments with a few hours notice when possible. If this is a medical emergency, please contact your local veterinarian or refer to our local resources section.
Kendra L. Healy, DVM
Having been in general practice for over 25 years, I’ve had the joy of seeing many fluffy young babies become faithful and beloved companions. As they’ve aged, I have been there to help many of them live happy and healthy lives, long into their golden years. I truly believe that no one wishes to have their time end in an unfamiliar environment. Sharing those last moments in a favorite place, where both the pet and the owners are comfortable, should be available to everyone. This is why I have chosen to devote the remainder of my career to helping our furry friends live out their golden years comfortably in the warmth and love of their homes.
I became a vet in 1987, when I earned my degree from Ross University. I’ve wanted to be a veterinarian ever since I can remember. I’ve always loved animals, biology and just “icky” things, so it’s the perfect fit. I grew up in Cincinnati and have lived in South Florida as well as Colorado Springs. I am happy to be with family here in Lexington, and love being back in this part of the country where the grass is green.
I share my home with two house cats; Maui, the DSH who loves to spend her time in a bowl and Sparkle, the regal Bengal who prefers to be glued to a lap. The two cats earning their keep in the barn are James Bond and Pussy Galore along with 4 beloved horses who only sometimes earn their keep.
"Dr. Kendra was wonderful during this very difficult time. Her care and patience with us and our sweet Maggie made things a bit more bearable. Dr. Kendra has a very calming quality that helped us all cope. The care and love she extended to our Maggie was noticed and greatly appreciated. Being able to spend this time at home instead of the vet's office was very important to us."

"Dr Kendra Healy helped us shower our beloved Sophie Marie out of this world with love when we had to put her to sleep. It was a wonderful gift for such a lovely dog and a beautiful experience through all the pain and sadness. We knew the minute she answered our phone call that she would be a perfect person to help us and she turned out to be more kind, compassionate and thoughtful than we could have imagined. She was sensitive, understanding and capable. She helped decide that the time was right and things we might want to consider about where and how Sophie, and we, would be the most comfortable. It was incredible to be able to say goodbye to Sophie not at the vet clinic but laying beside her on her bed, while Dr Healy knelt beside us and whispered or was silent, at just the right time. The thoughtfulness, dignity and grace continued when she carefully moved Sophie to a beautiful stretcher with purple velvet fabric and took her to be cremated. She offered for us to call her anytime we needed someone to talk to, and I know that was an offer from her heart. She returned in a few days with a beautiful wooden box with Sophie's cremains and special keepsakes including a booklet on grief and plaster cast of her paw print. We can't say enough about how wonderful Dr Healy and Lap of Love are. They made a lasting, beautiful impression on our last day with our special pet."

"Dr Healy was wonderful, she was kind and patient and gentle with both me and my dear old cat. I'm really thankful that we were able to do this at home. I recommend Lap of Love Lexington highly to anyone facing this difficult decision."
"I was blessed to have 17 years with my beautiful baby dog Maggie. She was a Rat Terrier with a glossy black coat, her big ears were the first thing everyone commented on. She was my best friend and my baby girl, I loved her so very much! I rescued her from the shelter when she was just a baby puppy, she was so full of life and immediately stole my heart. She came into my life as my only daughter went away for college, she filled the empty spot in my life and showered me with unconditional love. Her favorite game was playing with tennis balls, I have such beautiful memories of her tossing the ball into the bathroom each morning as I prepared for work.
The past few months had been extremely difficult as she was having so many health issues. She tried so hard to put on a brave strong front, my heart was breaking as I watched her trying to walk with pain. I knew at Christmas that I had to help my baby girl with the journey we all must face, she spent her favorite holiday in her bed too sick to do anything.
I finally found the courage to reached out to Kendra Healy, I was barely able to get the words out in between all my tears. I knew after talking to her on the phone that I had found the right person to help my baby girl. I had to eliminate all the stress and anxiety that I possibly could for Maggie, so I arranged for Kendra to come to our home. When Kendra arrived her sincere compassion, love, and patience for what Maggie and I were going through was the only thing that got me through. Maggie was in her home cradled in my arms, she had NO pain NO discomfort.
Kendra Healy is an Angel and I thank her so very much for what she did for my baby girl Maggie."

"Dr. Kendra was very supportive during our final weekend with Bella. I struggled with thoughts of maybe this was too soon for end of life since my dog was only 10 years old however, Dr. Kendra reassured me that my girl was getting progressively weaker. When I met her, she made me feel comfortable that I was making an appropriate and unselfish decision. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

"Dr, Healy was very gentle and compassionate and I was so relieved that she was available Thanksgiving weekend.
I would recommend Lap of Love to anyone who needs to put their pet to sleep. I was glad I did not have to inflict another trip to the vet on my poor sick little girl."
