Helping Families Honor the Lives Of Those They Love
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Nancy Rodriguez"Dr. Nancy Rodriguez was the answer to my prayer. My hero and best friend, Rooster, a remarkable and beautiful chow graced our lives for almost 19 years. He outlived his hips, hearing and his sight but he still had the nose that could sniff out goodness and he found that in Dr. Nancy Rodriguez. Rooster had grown weaker and more agitated over the past few months. We knew that it would create unsurmountable stress to take him to our vets and it was our wish that he could die peacefully in the environment he knew and loved and trusted. I worried for months about how I could have him make the transition at home but knew of no vets who did home euthanasia. Last week, Rooster's condition deteriorated and I knew that I could not hold on to him much longer. I spent a fretful night worrying about how I could get Rooster eased into his next life with out confusing and stressing him. He deserved better than that. The next morning, I opened an email from Consumer Affairs and the lead story was about LapofLove. A message from the Heavens and an answer to my prayer. I called Dr. Nancy Rodriguez on Friday and we arranged for her to come to my house and evaluated Rooster on Saturday. I was very uneasy about how Rooster would respond to a stranger that he could neither see nor hear but he relied on his nose to tell him that Dr. Nancy was there to help him and he could trust her. She spent hours on the floor with Rooster and talking to us. She made friends with Rooster's companions and invited them to participate in releasing Rooster's beautiful spirit from his weak and fading body. She walked us through every step. My husband and I have been in animal welfare and rescue for over 30 years. We have experienced the loss of our little friends many times and it never gets easier. Each one has a special place in our hearts and their memory lives on with us. We have always used the services of our vets to help us with the decision and the final act and they have always been there for us but Rooster's situation was very different. He was not a candidate for in-office euthanasia and I wanted him to die where he was the happiest....at home with his canine friends and us by his side. Dr. Nancy made that possible. We always have our pets cremated and their ashes returned to us so after Rooster made the transition and got his angel wings, Dr. Nancy prepared his body with such gentle love and compassion. She carefully gathered a lock of his hair and cast a pawprint for us. He was at peace when he made the transition and so were we. I cannot imagine ever packing up a sick pet and making the trip for an in-office euthanasia again. Home is where their hearts are and home is where they will leave us from this time forward. I am so thankful that Dr. Nancy Rodriguez will be there to help us get through it. Thank you, Dr. Nancy, for giving us the support and assistance we needed in our darkest hour and thank you on behalf of Rooster for helping him leave his weak and failing body in a dignified way while in his most loved environment surrounded by his best friends. We should all be so lucky when the time comes!"Rosemary CalhounChapinAugust 18, 2014
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Steven Schultz"Thank you, Dr. Schultz. We were having a hard time making our decision, but I could see that it was time. We were blessed that I found your website. We wanted Linus to pass on at home and we experienced all that we wanted for him. It is so comforting for us to know how stress free and painless his passing was. We are so grateful to you for all your kindness and compassion shown. Linus went around your legs and let you pet him, he knew you were a friend!"Pat & David DoaneTonawandaAugust 18, 2014Linus's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Angela Bross, DVM"A friend told us about Dr Angela a little while ago when my husky's health began to decline. I love our vet but just could not bring myself to pack his things up and put him in the car to take him so we called Lap of Love and I am so very glad we did. The coordinator, Cheryl was very sweet and helpful and Dr Angela was wonderful. Thanks to them, after almost 15 years together, my boy, Tai, was able to spend his final moments at home, surrounded by his family and outside in the sun and under the most beautiful blue sky. I could not have wished anything better for him and continue to tell everyone how lucky we are to have found them."Jen CovielloNewport NewsAugust 18, 2014
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Stacy Chirillo, DVM"Dr. Stacy is truly one of the most compassionate vets I have ever met. She made a difficult time more bearable and took great care answering my questions both prior to the appointment and during the visit. My beloved 17 year old cat, Chloe, died peacefully at home. While I’m heartbroken that she’s gone, I know that having Chloe put to sleep at home was much less stressful for her than taking her by car to our vet. I’m very grateful for the great care Dr. Stacy took with Chloe. Thank you Dr. Stacy for being so calm and understanding."Karen SeibertChicagoAugust 18, 2014
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Steven Schultz"We would like to thank Dr. Schultz for helping us transition our best friend into her next journey. Our amazing companion of 14 years became ill and she let us know it was time. Dr. Schultz , understanding our situation, came to our home on such short notice that we cannot thank him enough. She left us, with her family by her side, and the grace and dignity she deserved. We were able to give her a warm and loving last day as she gave us warm and loving days all her life. Thank you Dr. Schultz. You are a Saint."Dave and Lisa SAmherstAugust 18, 2014

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Brad Bates"I have no words that could possibly express my gratitude and appreciation for Dr. Brad and Lap of Love. Our previous experience of putting our dogs down at the Vet's office left us upset about how pets lives ended. Lap of Love was suggested to us by our Vet. Dr. Brad was just wonderful. He was knowledgeable about the type of cancer Beau had, about his breed and about what the future would hold for Beau if we decided to not move forward. Beau was very comfortable and peaceful with Dr. Brad and although the experience is heart wrenching it was not as traumatic as being in the Vet's office. Beau was comfortable and surrounded by his family. As huge as my sorrow is right now there are no regrets as to the way in which Beau left this world. We are forever grateful."Hope LukenLafayette HillAugust 17, 2014

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Angela Bross, DVM"After 16 years with my furry companion, I had to make the decision to help Chip cross-over after a long battle with liver disease. My friends told me "you will know when the time is right" and turns out they were 100% correct. A friend told me about Dr. Angela & The Lap of Love, so I made the call to them since Chip hated car rides as well as the vet's office. I really didn't want his last day to be frightful or traumatic. When Dr. Angela arrived at my home, I was anxious about the procedure because I wanted the best for Chip. But quickly I saw that Dr. Angela was indeed heaven sent in every way. Chip had people trust issues but he was very comfortable with her soft touch, voice and approach. Not one step was invasive, everything was explained in advance and at no time did we feel rushed. The room was truly filled with compassion and love. Dr. Angela was even willing to work from the floor so that I could sit with Chip in my lap in his favorite spot with his favorite blanket. I felt free to express my grief out loud and to shower love on my little boy; as Dr. Angela just blended right in on this sacred and precious moment. She reassured me that I was doing what was best for Chip, she understood my heart-pain & she showed such compassion for all of us!! If anyone ever needs an angel in their home who is also an excellent vet doctor to transition their loving companion, do not hesitate to call on Dr. Angela Bross. I thank Dr. Angela and I thank God for sending her.♥"Debbie SheltonChesapeakeAugust 16, 2014
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Katie Stender"We found Dr Katie thru a referral and we were desperate. Our beloved pomeranian Rocky had been in the hospital a few months before and we opted to not have the gall bladder removed (he was 12 1/2 at the time). We knew the risk moving forward and that at some point the gall bladder could rupture and unfortunately for us that occurred this week.

There was NO WAY we wanted Rocky to pass at a pet hospital and our regular vet was out of town - he didn't have much time and we wanted him to be at home, comfortable in his surroundings. We reached out to Katie and she was professional, courteous and understanding every step of the way. Every aspect of the somber occurrence was handled with care and respect. She took as much time as we needed and answered every question with patience and compassion. She also reached out to us today to follow up and see how we were doing.

Rocky was like our child (as many of your pets are as well) and I can honestly say I will look back on his passing as a memory of him being surrounded by love and taken care of with dignity. Per Katie's words that I will remember forever while Rocky was in my arms taking his last breath - "he has his wings now"...

Thank you Dr Katie from the bottom of my heart"

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Sara Fletcher, DVM"Dr. Sara is a compassionate and caring doctor. Putting our "Bella" to rest was one of the hardest things my husband and I have ever done. She couldn't have been more caring and helped us through this traumatic event. She took a impression of Bella's paw and saved a lock of hair for us. We knew she truly cared."Donna CannonWinston-SalemAugust 16, 2014Bella's Pet Memorial

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Brad Bates"Dr Brad was gentle and reassuring to me and Curry as well as her friend Max who stayed in the room in the beginning. We miss her a lot and are grateful for Dr Brad and his bringing a peaceful crossing over the Rainbow Bridge."Joan W.HarleysvilleAugust 15, 2014
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Brad Bates"My husband and I were grateful beyond words to have been referred to Dr. Brad. Our sweet boy was very sick, and we did not want to subject him to a trip to the vet, both because it would have been hard physically and challenging emotionally on him. Dr. Brad was incredibly compassionate and guided us through what is a very difficult process with love and expertise. I cannot recommend Dr. Brad or Lap of Love highly enough. We miss our boy terribly, but know that his crossing over the Rainbow Bridge was made more peaceful and easy because of Dr. Brad. Thank you for all that you did. - Caroline and Eric Nassan"Caroline NassanMount LaurelAugust 15, 2014
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Brad Bates"Dear Dr. Brad, you are truly an angel yourself to be able to do what you do for people like me and their pets. Louie wasn't just a dog to me. He was extremely special because of all that he endured in his 12+ years and always was right by my side no matter how he felt. I almost feel unworthy to be loved so unconditionally. He was a true companion but much more. I will pray for you always for what you do and how kind you are. I thought long and hard how to give Louie the comfort to do what was best for him. And I know he was where he loved to be most, in bed next to me sleeping. You provided the rest for him, The essence of Louie will always be here, he was stellar. And I positively know I will see him again. He is God's creature only on loan to me, I know he is in good hands now. Thank you for everything, your compassion, your calm and peaceful way. God Bless You Always."Judith SutoMediaAugust 15, 2014
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Merari Cruz, DVM"Thank you Lap Of Love! You trully are a blessing in such hard times. We had to make a not easy decision to put our beloved dog Baggi to sleep. He was very cheerful, playful, gentle and loving dog. Loved by many and loving every one. He cross the ocean and came over all the way from Bulgaria, to give us many but not enough years of joy and hapiness. Unfortunately melanoma striked him . The day we were told how sick he was, was one of the saddest days in our lives. Despite his energy leaving him rapidly to the last moment he had sparkle
for life and gifted us with his strong spirit and love. When Dr.Merari came to our house, he got up on his little legs to greet her. She was loving, tender and caring to him - like she knew he was the most gentle soul in the world. She sat down with us on the floor and pet him. She gave him a courage and assurance that everything will be OK. He peacefully went into eternal sleep. Thank you Dr.Merari for treating our beloved dog Baggi and us with dignity and respect! We really appreciate you coming to our house, the place that Baggi belonged to to give him the gift of no suffering and help him cross The Rainbow Bridge."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Rene Butler"From my first phone contact with Dr. Rene to our Tippy being carried out in a basket, covered with a pink blanket, her little head exposed and looking so peaceful, I was thankful for Dr. Rene. Dr. Rene had a kind, compassionate, respectful and gentle way with Tippy... and us. Tippy will forever be in our hearts and we will always be thankful that Dr. Rene was the one to be with us as we said our goodbyes to our Tippy in the comfort of her own backyard."Marcia NutterVacavilleAugust 15, 2014
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Charles Jameson, DVM"I want to thank Dr. Charles and his assistant Melissa. They helped our family send our beautiful Bella over the rainbow into Heaven. It was one of the hardest decisions that I have ever made as Bella had been my baby for 11 years. I had previously been with my daughter when she had to put her puppy with distemper into God's hands at the vet. I knew that I could not send my baby off in a sterile environment like that. So the choice to have her put into God's hands in a place that she was comfortable in was the best decision. We were all able to hold her and love her as she peacefully passed. I would highly recommend Dr. Charles and Melissa. They came within hours of our call and gave our Bella the utmost respect. Thank you again... we still think of her everyday and miss her sweet little face, but the grieving process has been easier because we know she is breathing without gasping for every breath running and playing in heaven. Her two little sisters miss her as well."Cathy TheriotSpringAugust 14, 2014

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Cindi Worrall, DVM"Dr. Cindi was such a gift to us during a very bleak evening. She was so empathetic, warm, and caring that it put us as ease as much as possible. Chip was instantly fond of her and seemed to understand that she was there to help him. Dr. Cindi explained everything to us, listened attentively to all of our stories about Chip, and then allowed us as much time as wanted to spend last moments with Chip. She made a difficult situation much more tolerable. Afterwards, Dr. Cindi wrote the nicest memorial to Chip by incorporating all the stories that we had shared. Thank you!"Kim SchneiderWest ChesterAugust 13, 2014
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Brad Bates"I was very worried how I was going to provide a proper passing for our wonderful dog Reilly until I spoke with Dr. Brad for the first time via phone. Not only did he help assure me that the procedure would be very soothing and peaceful for her but he also reassured me I was doing the right thing in scheduling at the time as Reilly had just been diagnosed 10 days earlier but was clearly in pain with times of "okay" periods when the medications kicked in. I didn't want her to suffer at all and also was unsure if i was taking her away from my son a few days too early. In the morning of Dr. Brad's arrival, I could see in Reilly's eyes that she was telling me she was ready to move on. Dr. Brad told me a week earlier that this type of cancer would progress at a very fast pace but that I could also call to delay last minute if so desired. It was very reassuring to hear that. From the moment Dr. Brad arrived, we knew exactly what to expect and his words for us and caring nature for Reilly were remarkable. My son who was present also just commented today on how nice it was for Reilly and he is beginning to move forward in his grieving. Thank you so much Dr. Brad for helping us in such a difficult time. I feel so positive about my last minutes with my girl and could not imagine a better passing for her."Bill ScribnerWayneAugust 13, 2014
