Includes a brief examination by the veterinarian to help explain your pet's condition, discuss symptom management including pain and anxiety, and prepare an end of life care plan using the appropriate quality of life scale to manage your pet along with your family's needs and desires.
There may be an additional charge for extended travel (see Service Area below), holidays ($50 - $100), pets over 99 lbs, appointments outside normal business hours (when arranged), aggressive pets, and some exotic species.
Although we mainly see dogs and cats, some of our veterinarians can assist you with other species such as pigs, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, birds, fish, and goats. Call for pricing and availability.
With this option, your pet is cremated privately at a licensed crematory. The ashes are contained in a lovely cedar urn with an engraved nameplate and will be returned to your primary care veterinarian within two weeks. They can also be made available directly from the crematory or mailed to you.
This option is for families that don't wish to have their pet's ashes returned nor wish to bury at home. Pets are respectfully cremated with other pets at a licensed crematory and ashes are scattered on a private farm with no visitation.
There may be a fee if additional assistance to safely carry your pet out of your home is needed.
We are here to answer your questions every day, from 5am - 8pm. Appointments are scheduled throughout the week, please call for availability.
Sometimes, pets take a turn for the worse overnight, so we do our best to accommodate same day appointments with a few hours notice when possible.
If this is a medical emergency, please contact your local veterinarian or one of the emergency clinics listed in the Local Resources section.
Let us introduce you to the amazing hospice veterinarians in your area.
I’m a Phoenix native, an ardent connoisseur of Mexican food, and a “mom” to four crazy canines. My favorite hobbies are hiking, yoga, skiing, reading and good conversation. I attended Arizona State University for my bachelor’s degree in Biology. I briefly left my beloved state and attended the University of Florida in Gainesville. While I loved my time at UF for veterinary school, my dogs and I happily moved back to the Valley of the Sun in the summer of 2017.
People often say to me “Your job must be awful” but I respectfully disagree. While end of life care comes with an inherent emotional “tax”, I truly feel I was called to this career. I find it both deeply fulfilling and a tremendous honor to help usher pets peacefully across the rainbow bridge. I’ve lost both human and animal loved ones so I know just how important those last days and moments are and I will do every in my power to make them as good as they can be for you and your pet. No matter how hard or heavy, I love this work and feel blessed every day to do it.

"We couldn't have been more blessed with Dr. Jordy Merrifield who helped send our sweet girl Roxie off to Heaven recently on 9/14/18. She was so incredibly compassionate and was a true God send for Roxie and us that day in so many ways. She cared for Roxie as if she were her own precious baby..it made all the difference in the world knowing Roxie passed in the most peaceful way and was comfortable in her own home with all of us around her. She even made special keepsakes of our pup to always treasure for our 7 year old daughter & us. The genuine love she expressed to us and Roxie that day...we are forever grateful. She was an amazing blessing to have in such a difficult time that day...we can never thank you enough Dr. Jordy. You took such great care of our baby of 13 years. We will never forget you. Thank you ever so much...From the Devahl family."

"I can not express how fortunate I was to have Dr. Jordy come to my home for my sweet Chuck who was 14 and very sick. I got him at the pound around 10 years ago and was so fortunate to have him. So many wonderful memories. When it was time for him to go, the hardest thing ever, I can't express how fortunate I was to have found Dr. Jordy when I had to make that decision. She is one special person.
Dear Dr. Jordy,
I guess I will just begin with thank you. Thank you for being so truly kind, caring, compassionate, and caring. These things can only come from someones heart, they cannot be faked. I knew right away when you came in my home to take care of my sweet sweet Chuck that somehow I had gotten really lucky that you were the one that came. After reading your bio I see why.
Tears are still streaming down my cheeks tonight missing him. And as you said these things do come in waves. My sweet Little Bits is behind me on the couch right now. I think he still thinks Chuck might show up. He is going to need a lot of love from now on and I will be there for him.
Another thank you for your generosity regarding the fee. I am still speechless about that. Again, thank you. Good things happen to me sometimes I don’t understand. If you hadn’t done that I was going to have to borrow the money from my son because I would only have had a few dollars to last for a week and a half until my next paycheck. I really need to repay things like this. I am retiring at the end of November and I intend to do some type of volunteering or something to help where I can.
Thanks again from Jazell, Little Bits and especially Chuck. I feel is now happy. Oh no, here come the tears again. I do think he had a good life and is now happy again. I will cherish his paw print and tuft of fur forever. What a special touch.

"Dr. Jordy was very kind and compassionate. I initially scheduled the appointment to see if Oliver would be a candidate for Hospice/Palliative care and to find out what that would involve. On the day of the appointment, however, Oliver was not doing well. It was clear that a different decision needed to be made. She was very patient with me while I made my decision and gave me time alone with him. She explained the process to me and, while I was very sad, it was a relief to see my little boy not suffering anymore. I would recommend her to anyone having to face this difficult time for your pet and am grateful for the Lap of Love services to be able to do this in the home."
"Dr. Jordy's kindness, compassion, and empathy helped us immeasurably with the passing of our girl, Sally. Her gentle guidance and genuine heartfelt connection to Sally and us helped to make this as painless as possible. As she was leaving she thanked us for giving her the gift of letting her transition Sally in this way. Those words had a profound impact on us and we will not forget them or her. Dr. Jordy, you truly are an angel and we love the beautiful contribution you make to this planet."
"When Maggie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma we knew we did not have much time left with her. We promised we would not let her suffer. When we could no longer control her pain we found Lap of Love and Dr. Jordy.
The compassion she showed not only to Maggie but to my husband and myself, made a very hard day a little easier. She explained everything with such kindness and assured us we were doing the right thing. She allowed us all the time we needed. Maggie was able to pass peacefully in her favorite spot on the sofa with us and her best friend Lexie by her side.
I am so grateful to Dr. Jordy and have told many of our friends with dogs about our experience. Best decision we made not only for Maggie but for us as well.
Thank you Dr. Jordy"

"Dear Dr. Jordy,
Words can’t begin to tell you how grateful we are for your compassionate care for our Willy. The time that you spent, the care that you gave were so comforting for us. We knew that when Willy left with you he could not have had better care. We will treasure his paw print, hair patch, and the picture we have of him in his blanket.
The work that you do is truly meaningful, and if we have anyone we know needing geriatric or terminal care we will certainly tell them of our experience with you.
