About Betty
Testimonial To Alecia Du Charme, DVM
5/25/2009 - 6/28/2017
Betty, you were such a good friend and companion. You were always there to give a cuddle or a purr and you made our hearts smile. We can only hope we were able to fill your life with the same joy and love that you gave to us. We will never forget you. Your tenacity, kindness, and spirit will be with us always.

Our previous rescue cat, Priscilla, had died of old age at the ripe age of 17. We knew she would have wanted us to rescue another cat because that was the type of lady she was--so giving and so motherly. After some time and healing, we started looking at local shelter cats and Betty just popped off of the web page. Her big round sunflower eyes, Harry Potter spot on her head, and sweet expression just drew us in. My husband went to visit her first since the shelter was by his office and she took to him immediately and sat on his lap for over 30 minutes in the adoption room. The next day we both went down there, and after some more cuddles, we adopted her.
Betty was named "Betty Boop" at the shelter, so we kept the name and shortened it. She was a petite, yet round girl, so she quickly got the nicknames of Butterball, Butters, and Lil' Bits. She took to our home immediately and found her favorite spots including the living room window sills, a toasty warm cat bed, and my colorful floor cushion (see photo). She also loved the sound of our electric toothbrushes and would get all excited when we would brush our teeth.
Betty loved the sunshine, her scratching mat, a toy mouse on a wire, laser pointers, and cuddling with us on the couch and in bed. She loved all bags and boxes equally and always tried to stow-away when my suitcase came out for a business trip. She encouraged my husband as he finished his PhD by sitting on his lap while he worked and she earned a tribute in his dissertation.
Sadly, Betty developed very severe chronic asthma that was well-controlled for a long time, but it eventually took over her lungs. She took her inhalers and medicine without any complaints and was an example to us of how to push forward even when things get tough. All of her vet techs said she was their best patient and a little charmer.
She was our sweet little girl who never left our sides.
"Dr. Alecia was really there for us in such a great time of need. She took to Betty right away and made us all feel so calm during a time of such sadness and despair. Even though we knew deep down we had made the right decision, it was still so hard. Hearing Dr. Alecia explain that we were making a decision filled with compassion and love helped us to let go of our guilt so we could do what was best for our Betty. She is truly a living angel and she allowed Betty to pass in her home where she felt most comfortable without any fear or pain. We are so grateful."

What beautiful memorial of your girl Betty. She sounds like she was such a sweet girl. I know you built great memories with her and I hope with time those memories bring nothing but a smile to your faces. We are all here for you if there is anything we can do for you <3

Betty was the sweetest little cat you could ever hope to have. We miss her very much, but we know she is in kitty heaven with Priscilla enjoying a nap in the sun.

I know how much you must be missing your sweet Betty. Thank you so much for allowing us a little window into your world with her. She was clearly such a special girl and will be truly missed.

" She Was Loved", I'm sure she knew that & returned that love too both of you. It was a perfect match all around. I'm sure she considered you both her human family. Thinking of You !!!
