Duce
3/6/2001 - 4/6/2014Duce,

It's been a week now since you got your Angel WIngs. I wanted you to know that we've been doing the best we can, but your absence is everywhere. It's been not unlike viewing the world in black and white, slowed down, but we know at least we loved you enough to let you go, freed you from your pain and let you soar.

Born in a puppy mill, diabetes early in your life, torn MCL that needed surgery, cataracts, foxtail that wedged into your abdomen and finally lymphoma. If ever there was a dog that had an excuse, it was you, but you never let any of that get in the way of your life. Lessons a dog can teach a person?

We sent you six balloons a few days back, from the back yard skyward. Mamma wrote her love for you on all of them, to let you know they were meant for you. When you get them, play with them and think of us, and know that we are thinking of you. Always.

You don't know how much we miss you, 'Poopa'. Sounder has been doing his best to comfort us, but he's hurting as well. For all the fights over toys he had with you, he really does miss you terribly as well. I miss scratching your head. So much.

Go now, go and play and know that you will live forever in our hearts and our memories.
