Meet The Doctor

Courtney Brookens Graham, DVM

I grew up in a dog and cat-loving family in Metamora, Michigan.  After graduating from high school, I attended Michigan State University for both my undergraduate and veterinary medicine degree, which I attained in 2000.  I have been practicing in the Rochester area for nearly my entire veterinary career.  My husband and I, along with our son and daughter, share our home with a mischievous little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chief, and our "misunderstood" cat, Sarah.

During my last year of veterinary school, I adopted a tiny little black kitten, who had been found on the streets of Lansing and brought to the veterinary teaching hospital at MSU.  I named him Simon, and he quickly ingrained himself into my life, growing up to be a big handsome boy.  He was there for me through thick and thin, from vet school graduation to meeting my husband, getting married, and having my two beautiful children.  He never once complained about the new dog, the new cat, having to move, or the babies that would pull at his fur.  His love was unconditional.  When I realized that his time on this earth was nearing its conclusion, I knew that he would want to be at home with me.  Even though it was extremely heartbreaking, I performed his euthanasia at home, and I knew that this was the final act of love that I could give to my Simon.

I feel there is no greater gift that I can give to my clients than a peaceful goodbye for their beloved pet.  I am honored to be able to offer in-home hospice and euthanasia services.  By allowing my patients to remain in the comfort of their homes and with their families around them, I can help to ensure a calm and pain free transition when their time here is at an end.  The death of a pet is devastating, but I pledge to treat your pet with as much care as I would my own.

Dr. Courtney is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as a member of the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care.

"I would highly recommend to anyone, Dr. Graham's services, providing in home pet euthanasia. She treated my husband, myself and our much loved boys with such love and respect and helped make both situations as bearable as possible (Blue RiP 2/16, Neiko RiP 11/16). We never felt rushed or treated poorly. Both our boys, in their final moments were in the comfort of our home surrounded by love, without adding any extra stress to both them and ourselves."

"Dr. Courtney was so patient and kind. I couldn't have asked for a better doctor to help our boy. I am so thankful that she was able to come into our home so Debo could pass peacefully and surrounded by what he knows and loves. It was also so good for the other animals to see what happened so they understand. I am so grateful for Lap of Love and Dr. Courtney."

"Dr. Courtney was wonderful, so kind and calming. She spoke of our dear Ralph as though she had known him well. She explained every step and patiently answered every question and reassured us that we had chosen the right time. Saying good-bye to your dear friend is never easy but Dr. Courtney made it the best good-bye possible."

"Dr. Brookens,

Thanks you for making this experience as comforting as possible. Kelly was a great dog that you had treated in the past. I greatly appreciated your kind words for Kelly and myself during the final stage of Kelly's time.

Thanks

“Griffin, I miss you so much. You were my sweet boy. Your passing didn’t leave holes but craters in my life. From sharing breakfast in the morning, to curling up with me at night, to your subtle reminder that a back rub would be appreciated, your absence is felt. I mostly miss your smiling welcome when I returned home from errands. I am ...

“Debo crossed over to the rainbow bridge on July 25 with his mom, dad and fur brothers by his side. Debo went so peacefully...he was ready to let go. Debo gave us almost 16 years of love and loyalty. He truly was the best dog every. He was so kind and gentle. He never bit or growled. Jace used to eat dog food out of his bowl when he was a baby and ...

“Recently we put to rest a member of our family - our dog Julie. She was with us for 17 years. We got her as an 8 week old puppy from the Humane Society and she quickly became a part of our family. Julie loved going for walk and running beside us when we rode our bikes. She enjoyed camping and traveling in the car. But she especially loved going ...

“RIP to the most well behaved and loyal dog ever. She was daddy's girl until the very end. It was my first experience with a Saint Bernard since a child as a neighbor had a Saint. She was a gentle giant and a sweetheart to all.....human or animal.....except squirrels!!! She will be missed, but never forgotten....”
