AVAILABILITY
We are here to answer your questions every day, from 7am - 11pm. Appointments are scheduled throughout the week, please call for availability.

Sometimes pets take a turn for the worse overnight or in a short amount of time, so we do our best to accommodate same day appointments with a few hours notice, but cannot guarantee that.

If this is a medical emergency, please contact your local veterinarian or one of the emergency clinics listed in the Local Resources section.

Dr. Mandi

Mandi Beckmann

There was never any doubt in my mind that I wanted to become a veterinarian and that has always been thanks to the incredible bonds I was lucky enough to form with some amazing animals. I grew up on a small hobby farm in Minnesota surrounded by a menagerie of animals: dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, horses… the list goes on!

With my mom’s help and support, I spent my teenage years fostering rescue dogs. Over time, a few of those dogs found their forever home with us. Peaches was a senior pitty who had a really rough start in life. As soon as she came home with us, we all knew (Peaches included) that she had finally found her forever safe place. Miss Peaches spent four years with us and helped raise puppies while always remaining the sweet yet authoritative boss of the household. She was such a blessing in our family, and at the end of her life, we were able to say goodbye in the comfort of our home with the help of our family’s veterinarian. I am thankful beyond words that she could pass peacefully in the place where she knew she was safe and loved, after all those years and her storied past. I keep her tags on my keychain as a reminder that the incredible bond we shared will never be gone. That bond, and others like it, shaped my views as I began my professional career and today it fuels my love for this work.

After graduating from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, I completed an internship with an equine veterinary practice. I have a wide variety of interests including ophthalmology, reproduction medicine, and neonatology. However, my favorite thing about being a veterinarian is having the privilege to connect with and care for people and their beloved pets. In my eyes, there are few ways to better honor the beauty of the human-animal bond than through the gift we provide at Lap of Love. Giving your beloved pet a peaceful passing is an incredible gift and one that I’m humbled to be able to provide. I truly am honored to be there for you during this delicate time.

"Thank you so much for accommodating my family for the euthanasia of our beloved 15 1/2 scottie, Jack. It has been such a difficult time and an even more difficult decision to put Jack to sleep. But, we knew he was suffering, and was not going to get better. I called and in less than 24 hours, Dr. Eric Newhart was at our doorsteps to help us through this life altering event. He was calm, he examined Jack and agreed we were making the right decision. The whole process, although extremely emotional and very sad, was a quick and virtually a painless experience for Jack. He was at peace within a few minutes. Dr. Eric was skilled, gentle, courteous, caring and compassionate. Thank you very much for making this extraordinarily heartbreaking time, a little more palatable. I know Jack did not suffer at all in the hands of Dr. Eric, and he was able to pass in his favorite spot in his own home, surrounded by his family. RIP, Jack - we all love you and will miss you forever."

"We are still heartbroken without our little girl, Summer, around. We miss her terribly. But, we are also comforted by the fact that she is at peace. It was, by far, the best decision to have Summer leave this world in her home. We are so lucky that Laps of Love was recommended and that Dr. Eric was available to us. The minute we met Dr. Eric, we knew he was special. He explained everything in a calm and compassionate way. He genuinely wanted to know about Summer and we told him about our relationship with our canine family member. He did not rush the process at all. It helped us talking about our canine companion and how much she meant to us. This also helped us tremendously in accepting what was going to happen. Giving us time with her to mourn after she passed away was a tender moment we won't forget. Again, we cannot thank Dr Eric enough for his kindness and compassion."

"Dr Eric Newhart and Dr Christine Shibly were our angels during our time of need. Christine helped up understand what to look for so that our sweet boy would not suffer. Dr. Eric was here to help our Buddy cross the rainbow bridge. Their approach and caring way really meant the world to us during such a difficult time. This is he hardest thing I have ever had to do (and I'm an Afghanistan Trauma Nurse Veteran) but they were here for us and I cannot thank them enough

Best,

Julie Darling"

"Letting go of a beloved pet was a difficult process to experience, but Dr. Eric Newhart made this process as peaceful and gentle as possible. In addition, setting up the appointment was a positive experience, as I discussed my dog's situation with Lap of Love staff. Dr. Eric was very mindful of Hunter's comfort throughout the process and I was able to focus on my final moments with my beloved dog. I know that Hunter felt caring, trust, assurance, and love as he transitioned from this place."

"I would like to take a moment to thank Dr. Eric for coming to our home to lay our girl to rest. I can't begin to express the comfort I had in knowing she went peacefully.

Dr. Eric was very compassionate and gave us as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes to Cocoa. He also explained every step of the procedure which was helpful for me. He was very gentle with her throughout the process and let me know he would be available if I needed anything afterward - received an email and card as follow up. Thank you Dr. Eric and Lap of Love for your services during this difficult time - your services will be highly recommended"

"It has been almost a month since we had to say goodbye (for now) to our beloved Sherman (Sherm-Sherm). I think I can finally write a paragraph or two without totally falling apart thinking about him. My wife and I are eternally grateful for God allowing us to care for our buddy for 8 years.

He initially was in a shelter for over a year before he became a part of our family. God certainly had “pre-chosen” Sherman for us as we had looked at other dogs to be a companion to our other dog – Nayla. There was a reason we were unable to adopt the other dogs – Sherman was the “chosen one” that we just had not been introduced to yet. He and big sister (they were both about 65-75 lbs) Nayla got along right away. We could not have asked for a better start to an expanded family. He quickly became the “big mouthed watchdog” at that corner house. He barked at every person, bike, car, truck, bus, postal vehicle (USPS, UPS, and FedEx), bird and squirrel that ventured near the yard. He was truly our “Secretary of Defense.”

When it became evident he was struggling to walk around and after we talked with our vet about his condition, they suggested we contact “Lap of Love.” I went to the website and read about the service. We discussed it together and decided that if we had to say goodbye (for now) to our dearest Sherm-Sherm, we wanted it to be at home.

We called and made an appointment for an early in the week appointment. Due to his deteriorating condition, we felt we could not prolong his condition. We did not want him to suffer anymore. We then called back to see if we could get an appointment sooner. We received a call late Saturday afternoon for an early Sunday morning appointment. The person helping us on the phone said Dr. Eric would be coming to our house. By his actions we could tell Dr. Eric was a very “caring” individual and professional. From beginning to end we felt at ease with the way he handled and dealt with our Sherm-Sherm. We never felt like we were rushed at anytime during the process of saying goodbye (for now) to our buddy.

When the euthanasia was over, Dr. Eric carefully wrapped our Sherman up and I helped place him in the back of Dr. Eric’s SUV. We have Sherman's ashes with us so he will always be at home. We felt completely at ease with Dr. Eric and highly recommend him and Lap of Love to anyone facing this inevitable circumstance."

“Cocoa - It's been exactly seven days and you can't begin to imagine how much Bowser and I miss you! “Into our lives this lovely light shone,
A rescued angel in search of a home.

He stole our hearts, he blossomed and grew,
Into a loving companion, faithful and true.

Now his steps have faltered and his coat turned to grey,
And The Lord has whistled our angel home to stay.

Words don’t exist to express our love,
And our loss will be felt ...
