Pets 100 - 149 pounds$375
Pets 150 - 200 pounds$400

ADDITIONAL AFTERCARE FEES

To best honor your personal space, our doctors do not arrive with a vet technician.  Therefore, if your family has elected cremation for a pet over 30 pounds, we may ask your assistance moving your loved one after euthanasia has been performed.  If additional help is needed outside what is available in the home, we may request that the crematory come to assist us.  In this case, an additional fee will be needed to cover their charge.

Dr. Sara

Sara Barlowe

I grew up on Long Island, NY, surrounded by pets big and small since the day I was born. I knew I wanted to be a vet for as long as I could remember.  Just recently I stumbled across something I wrote in kindergarten about where I saw myself in 20 years. It read: “as a vet, treating a snowflake white Dalmatian!” Even though I don’t see many Dalmatians, the sentiment still rings true.

My passion to pursue a career in veterinary medicine led me to Emory University in Atlanta, GA, before travelling to New England for veterinary school at Tufts University. Following graduation, I began practicing in Pennsylvania - not quite as cold as the New England winters, but still close to home. I entered a fast-paced general practice, but found myself longing for a deeper and more personal connection with clients and their pets. I discovered I loved house call appointments because they gave me the opportunity to understand a family’s goals, as well as the pet’s day-to-day life and home environment. I loved knowing that when I entered a home, pets viewed me as a friend and not a scary doctor.

Whenever I tell people I am a veterinarian, one of the most common stories I hear is of their pet’s final moments.  Initially I found this surprising, but after practicing for years, I have discovered this moment is of the utmost importance in both a pet’s life as well as a family’s. I realized that if I could make those moments absolutely perfect, I could bring both peace and relief to pets and their families.  I am honored to have the opportunity to be welcomed into your home to help you through difficult decisions, and, when it’s time, help your pet pass with grace and dignity surrounded by loved ones.

When I’m not practicing medicine, I enjoy hiking, hosting game nights, drawing and painting, and spending time with my own furry and feathered family.  I have a fluffy dog named Koda, a mischievous cat named Catrick, and a strong-willed rescue cockatiel named Bobby.

"We are so grateful to have been able to say goodbye to our furry friend, Cooper in our home. We were able to set something up with Lap of Love in a timely manner, so that Cooper did not have to suffer any longer. Dr. Sara was so incredibly kind, patient and professional when she came to our home. She listened, guided and comforted us through a difficult and heartbreaking time. It was a sweet and peaceful goodbye for our family and Cooper."

"I cannot say how much it meant for us to be able to have Preciosa spend her last moments outside in the garden. Sara was great and made it as easy as it could be. I would and will use lap of Love again. It was such a gift for her "boys" to be able to say good-bye to their Mom."

Diane Peralta
West Chester, Pennsylvania

"My husband and I were devastated to have to say goodbye to our almost-16-year-old Rocco, and neither of us had been through this process before. Despite all of the grief and uncertainty, Dr. Sara Barlowe helped make his final moments as peaceful as possible in our home. We were so grateful for her expertise, her calm demeanor and her kind heart. Thank you, Dr. Barlowe."

Robin Hull
Gladwyne, Pennsylvania

"I cannot say enough wonderful things about Lap of Love and Dr. Sara in particular. I received the devastating news that my sweet Pete had terminal oral cancer. He had no other symptoms with the exception of some minor drooling. After receiving the diagnosis his condition quickly deteriorated and I knew when he could no longer eat - his favorite activity- I had to make the difficult decision to have him cross the rainbow bridge.

Due to Covid-19, I was told that should I choose to have the procedure in the veterinarian's office I would not be able to be in the office and hold him through the process. This was never an option that I could consider. As much as I knew this would be difficult I wanted to be there for him to comfort him and decrease his stress. Also, Pete HATED leaving our house to go to the vet. I began researching Lap of Love because I wanted to give him the dignity and comfort of passing in our home while I held him.

Dr. Sara is one of the kindest and compassionate people I have ever met. She fully prepared us for what the process would be like. You could tell this is not just a job for her it is a calling. She was so gentle. She gave us all the time we needed to be ready for the procedure. She reached out to me afterward to see how our family was doing. You can tell how much she cares for animals and their families. I would highly recommend Lap of Love and Dr. Sara to anyone who wishes to say goodbye in a peaceful and dignified way."

"Thank you Dr. Sara for helping our sweet Juicy cross that 🌈 bridge. It was so difficult to see her go and her absence make us miss her so much. I’m glad Dr. Sara was so patient and understanding. I only wish we could’ve met during a happier time and we could’ve properly welcomed her to our home. Instead we just can’t stop crying and my brother was very inward as he is hurting so much so we didn’t get to talk much. I really appreciate that Dr. Sara gave us the space and patience that we need."

"I will, for certain, contact Lap of Love and Dr. Sara Barlowe should we ever need end of life care for a pet again. We had so many medical appointments in the last week of our dog Ripley's life; I just wanted to let her rest in comfort at our home once we found out she would not recover. I wasn't sure if that would be possible with Covid-19 going on, but from the moment I contacted Lap of Love I knew it was the right decision. They were kind and patient - incredibly empathetic. Dr. Barlowe (Sara) contacted us before arriving to go over any questions - we all agreed to wear masks as a precaution. She was kind to us, she was gentle and loving with Ripley, and she gave us the time and respect we needed to grieve. She made a paw-print impression for us to keep (something I didn't know she would do, but am so glad we have). It is a terribly hard thing to do, no matter the circumstance, but I really feel glad for the peaceful last moments afforded us by this service. Thank you for making it more bearable."

“Preciosa was a sweet, loving dog. Her whole life was devoted to her family, dog and people. Old age betrayed her, but she never gave up her spirit. She showed us how important it is to love others and to get the most out of every day. We miss her bright shining eyes and her caring face. However, what she gave us in her sixteen years will ...

“Our family got to have the joy of having George in our family for 14 1/2 years. Our kids grew up with him. We are grateful for every day with him. He was the sweetest guy and endeared himself to all of the neighbors. He visited our neighbor for pancake Sunday and naps by the fire on a regular basis. He loved cheese curls and being wherever ...
