There may be a fee if additional assistance to safely carry your pet out of your home is needed.
Dr. Sarah will be unavailable from November 8th - 26th. Our Support Team is available everyday via phone or email to answer your questions and to schedule an appointment upon her return.
We are here to answer your questions every day, from 6 am - 10 pm. Appointments are scheduled throughout the week, please call for availability.
Sometimes, pets take a turn for the worse overnight, so we do our best to accommodate same day appointments with a few hours notice when possible.
If this is a medical emergency, please contact your local veterinarian or one of the emergency clinics listed in the Local Resources section.
Sarah Flott, DVM
I grew up in the Austin area and have always had a passion for animals since I can remember. Growing up, we had an abundance of pets in the house, ranging from dogs, cats, fish, frogs, turtles, gerbils, and hamsters. Always being around animals influenced my strong dedication to protecting animal welfare and desire to help speak for the unspoken.
While attending college, I went to schools that were close to the beach due to my love for the water. I attended Texas A&M in Corpus Christi and then headed to the Caribbean on the small island of St. Kitts to attend Ross University Veterinary School. During my time in school, I spent time working at animal shelters and as a veterinary technician. I was also able to get scuba certified during my studies there and loved relaxing on the beach, snorkeling, and going on scuba diving adventures. My clinical year was spent at Texas A&M University where I found lasting relationships with future colleagues of mine and developed my interest in small animals and non-avian exotics.
After graduating, I moved back to Austin and practiced for four years in private practice. I love educating clients about the well-being of their pets and how to properly recognize and determine quality of life.
Now, I have a small zoo at my house. I currently have two dogs, an American Staffordshire named Bowser and an American Bulldog/Australian Shepherd mix named Dakota; two Flame Point cats – one that is diabetic named Pumpkin and a Caribbean one named Ziggy. I also have a bearded dragon lizard named Puff. I am engaged to the love of my life and looking forward to my wedding at the end of this year.
"Dr. Sarah was so warm and compassionate. We felt comfortable with her instantly. She explained everything and allowed us to take the time we needed to say goodbye to Sissy. We are so grateful for the option to say goodbye in the comfort of our own home with so little stress on Sissy. I don't want to have to go through this again any time soon but I will certainly call Dr. Sarah first when the time comes."

"What an amazing service. I was worried seeing a vet neither my cat or I were familiar with would be awkward and uncomfortable. Kelly and Bethany were both so helpful and patient with me during my multiple calls and emails. Dr. Sarah was wonderful. She made me feel comfortable, supported my decision and was so genuinely compassionate. Anyone willing to sit in the floor of my bedroom closet and talk to my cat and me for an extended period of time is someone I admire and respect. With a house full of animals I know I will have to eventually deal with making end of life decisions. I feel much better knowing I can contact Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice, Inc. and Dr. Sarah if necessary."

"Thank you so much for your loving kindness and empathy during what has probably been one of the most painful days of my life. I've been in Oklahoma since leaving Friday morning, and only returned home this evening. The house is excruciatingly silent without Bessa here. Thank you for the thoughtful memorial you wrote. I only just announced it on Facebook this evening.
Thank you for all the materials you left too. I read every page. It even looked like Mabel did some modeling for the tri-fold brochure. :) She's had a lot to say to me since my return. I'm glad she came out to say goodbye before we took Bessa away.
It's definitely going to be a long grieving process for me. Today officially marks the first day I've ever lived in Austin and not had her by my side. It's going to be a heartbreaking few days and weeks making that adjustment. At least I still have Mabel here, who will get more love than she's ever wanted.
I will definitely tell everyone I know about you and the services Lap of Love offers. No one I've spoken with even knew it was an option, so I will definitely be an advocate to share information. It made it so much nicer being able to be with her up until the very end, and to be home where she was not stressed, and could pass peacefully in familiar surroundings.
Thank you again for what you do. You said you don't have an artistic bone in your body, but you have a very special gift that far surpasses any piece of art. I am grateful for your kindness and sincere sympathy."

"It's been 2 weeks & 2 days and I'm only just now starting to feel like I can sort of cope with losing my sweet little Angel Baby. She was just such a pure heart & so sweet & so young. I'm still heartbroken, but I am coming around to accepting the fact that I did what had to be done, for her.
Now I'm trying to focus on how lucky I was to have been able to provide your services for her. Under the circumstances, it was as peaceful, and went as well as it possibly could have. So, thank you for that. You made it easier for me, too & I can't even begin to express to you how incredibly grateful I am for you. You were professional, yet so warm - a perfect blend of logic & emotion. You really are so great at what you do. I will most certainly recommend you to friends who may need your help in the future.
I truly appreciate your positive input regarding the work that I've done in my area to take care of the feral kitties & to try to prevent FIP from taking any more lives than it already has. What a devastating disease FIP is. I still can't believe I've lost 2 kitties to it. But hopefully, there won't be any more loss from it, at least in my neck of the woods.
This situation has inspired me to find some way to help others who need in-home end of life care for their beloved pets, but cannot afford it. I'm looking into what it would take to start a non-profit organization to raise funds for this cause. I'll let you know if or when it comes to fruition. I think every pet deserves that peace in their final moments.
Thanks again, Sarah."

"Our family was referred to Lap of Love and was happy to learn their services were available in our area.
Dr. Sarah Flott assisted our Sammy in getting his wings. She walked us through the process before, during and after. She was kind, patient and caring and gave us as much time we needed to say our final hugs and goodbyes.
Thank you Dr. Flott for helping Sammy find peace. We will always be grateful for your compassion.
