This option is for families that don't wish to have their pet's ashes returned nor wish to bury at home. Pets are respectfully cremated with other pets at a licensed crematory and ashes are scattered in a wooded area near crematory..
There may be a fee if additional assistance to safely carry your pet out of your home is needed.
We are here to answer your questions every day, from 7am - 11pm. Appointments are scheduled throughout the week, please call for availability.
Sometimes, pets take a turn for the worse overnight, so we do our best to accommodate same day appointments with a few hours notice when possible.
If this is a medical emergency, please contact your local veterinarian or one of the emergency clinics listed in the Local Resources section.
Let us introduce you to the amazing hospice veterinarians in your area.
I’ve known I wanted to be a veterinarian since I was about 8 years old- and still have a 3rd grade school paper to prove it! I grew up in Albany, NY, Baltimore, MD and Jacksonville, FL before attending the College of William and Mary in Viriginia for my undergraduate degree in Biology and then returning to Florida to obtain my veterinary degree at the University of Florida.
I grew up always having a mix of animals in the house- cats, dogs, fish, pet mice, and even an occasional rescued baby bird. I loved learning about all these pets almost as much as caring for them, so veterinary school was a perfect fit. After 1 year in small animal general practice in New Jersey after graduating, I took a position at a feline only clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. I remained there for nearly 11 years and formed close bonds with many clients through those years- seeing numerous cats from early in their lives until it was time to guide their owners through the tough decisions at the end. While at that practice I occasionally had the opportunity to make home visits for euthanasia and was always struck by what a different, calmer, and more personal experience it was. It really made a difference to the owners to have their pets in their favorite spot, surrounded by the people and things they love.
I’m very happy to have recently settled in Richmond with my family - my husband Jeff (a veterinary neurologist and fellow UF graduate) our son Andrew, daughter Katie, and our beloved shelter dog Hammie. I hope to be able to help families in this area by making one of the most difficult times they’ll face as pet owners a bit easier and more peaceful.
Sarah Clarke, DVM
"Dr. Sarah Clarke was a great comfort for us during this time. We are so glad she was able to help us during this difficult time."

"Simply, I met Dr. Clarke the first day I brought Kiwi into the vet. Dr. Powell spoke with me, then Dr. Lucas, then Dr. Clarke. All shared their expertise. Dr. Clarke had a way with words, making me feel that any decision I made would be a good one because Kiwi was so loved.
Five weeks later I called her through Lap of Love even though she is one of my vets. The Swift Creek Vet Clinic all spoke highly of her hospice. My vet tech Alex shared her kind words, she had spent five weeks helping me with Kiwi, and when it happened so fast I knew who I was going to call. She truly was a blessing."

"Dr. Sarah was the best comfort I could possibly ask for during this unbearable experience. I am so grateful for her compassionate care!"
"As every testimonial on this site says, Dr. Sarah is an angel. She found time to help us on a weekend, arrived punctually, and found our family on the kitchen floor surrounding our dear 7-year old golden retriever Ginny, who was gravely ill with lymphoma. She knew just what to do to soothe our worries, guide us through acceptance of the procedure, and help our loved one along with a peaceful easing that I will always be grateful to her for. She gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye. She made clay paw imprints and placed clippings of our pup's ginger fur in an envelope for mementos, then we lifted Ginny onto a stretcher and my son and I pall-bore her to Dr. Sarah's SUV. She is now handling crematory for us. We are so grateful."

"Dr. Sarah was as kind and helpful as you could ask. With Lucas' health failing precipitously over a week, I didn't want to stress him out by a trip to the vet. I am so glad Lap of Love was able to send Dr. Sarah to evaluate Lucas and help us let him go peacefully. Not only that, she's been a great support since; helping us come to terms with Lucas' illness and understand what it had done to him. We are so grateful to Lap of Love and Dr. Sarah's compassionate care."

"I cannot thank you all enough for having this service available to the public. Dr. Sarah came and was compassionate and professional with her services. I got several hugs which I needed and she even got kisses from Truffles before she eased her pain. She was very tender and caring in her approach which sure did comfort me as her MOM. Thank you so much Dr. Sarah, I will recommend this service to all of my family and friends"
