On what was one of the hardest days of my life she knew what to say, do, and when to let me process it all. The world is a better place because of people like Kristina. Lap of Love Veterinarian: Alecia Du Charme, DVM"I awoke this morning and could not go back to sleep. Mourning the loss of our beautiful Chow Chow, Jochi, who passed onto a heavenly realm, July 1, 2017, with the help of Dr. Alecia, a beautiful angel of mercy.

Dr. Alecia was so calm and compassionate, and gave us the confidence, as the drugs were administered, that we had made the right decision. Based on certain body reactions from Jochi, she told us that the cancer most likely spread more than we had known. We learned a lot about how dogs won't show their pain but keep going as long as they can.

I know Jochi was grateful as he licked my hand while holding his paw, as the sedative was kicking in to ease his pain. We are beyond grateful to have had Dr Alecia be there, patiently with him and with us. We all cried but knew it was the right thing to do. That was so important to us, to know we did right by him.

He is with God now. We are so glad he is out of pain. Brave little soul, he lived a bit over a year with chemotherapy for lymphoma cancer.
We have little Olive, our mini Schnauzer/Dachshund mix of piss and vinegar. Dr. Alecia had her smell him after he was gone to know, too, her friend would not be coming back. She, too, is grieving. We were not sure how to deal with this either, but know, too, that this was a good decision.

Jochi was bought by our daughter, which I was told through a picture message at work. It said, "Mom! Look who we are bringing home!" I won't write what I said out loud. I walked in the door, and this 25 lb, 12 week out, black baby bear jumped on me, wrapped his stubby arms around my neck, and showered me with puppy breath kisses. That was it.

He has been our guardian ever since. We have never felt so loved and guarded by any living thing.
Ii see him running and playing in the sun and grass, chasing rabbits forever, pain free.
Thank you so much, Dr . Alecia. You are an angel, a beautiful being."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Alecia Du Charme, DVM"Dr. Alecia was really there for us in such a great time of need. She took to Betty right away and made us all feel so calm during a time of such sadness and despair. Even though we knew deep down we had made the right decision, it was still so hard. Hearing Dr. Alecia explain that we were making a decision filled with compassion and love helped us to let go of our guilt so we could do what was best for our Betty. She is truly a living angel and she allowed Betty to pass in her home where she felt most comfortable without any fear or pain. We are so grateful."Chicago, IllinoisJuly 1, 2017Betty's Pet Memorial

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kristina Kalivoda, DVM"Zippy passed away naturally after suffering from Osteosarcoma cancer. While Dr. Kalivoda did not assist us in his passing, she helped us coped with the logistics after Zippy's passing. She was very kind and understanding of our grief. She listened closely and attentively to our description of Zip. We were pleasantly surprised of the details in the Eulogy she prepared for us. We extend our heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kalivoda."Kate and Craig MadsenChicago, IllinoisJune 9, 2017Zip Madsen's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kristina Kalivoda, DVM"Although our cat Luna was 18 and had been diagnosed with kidney disease, we weren't expecting to be in this situation so soon or so quickly. We found her lying on the floor in the morning, breathing but totally unresponsive to anything. We agonized over what to do; we dreaded the thought of having to take her to her regular vet's office, knowing it would be incredibly stressful to her and us. But we knew it was time, so I contacted Lap of Love. Dr. Juliana got back to me quickly, explained everything to me and gave me a one-hour window. Dr. Kristina was there on time (certainly this isn't a situation where you can deal with someone being late) and she was simply wonderful. She was kind and patient, and very sincere in her sympathy for my wife and me. We'd had Luna since she was a kitten and life without her was impossible to imagine. But Dr. Kristina was so well-prepared and let us take our time with the process. We will miss Luna terribly, but Lap of Love and Dr. Kristina made what could have been so stressful and anxiey-provoking, peaceful and loving. Thank you!!!!"Lainie WolfsonEvanston, IllinoisMay 27, 2017
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Juliana Lyles, DVM"It will be 3 years ago this August that I lost my beloved Jethro. Dr. Juliana came to our home and I am so thankful that she came and Jethro even welcomed her. This was a very difficult decision but it was the right one. I loved my 157lb Jethro (Bloodhound) so much, I didn't want him to suffer anymore. He was with his family when he passed and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Dr. Juliana was an angel and I hope her and her staff continue doing their wonderful caring job.

I think about Jethro every day and thank the Lord that he was in mine and our lives. I make sure I tell everyone that has a beloved pet, that they know about "Lap of Love".

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kristina Kalivoda, DVM"Thank you, Dr. Kristina. Sounds like Benn found the right person to help him with this unwelcoming situation. What a gift to be able to see into the eyes of your patients and write a eulogy that captures their being... I know Jezzie is at ease now."Chris CrossChicago, IllinoisMay 4, 2017Jezzie's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Alecia Du Charme, DVM"Dr. Alecia was so wonderful with our Frankie! She was everything you would want a vet to be and more - warm, caring, compassionate, gentle. She took the time to learn more about our special, one of a kind, spunky almost 18 year old cat, letting us share pictures and stories, before giving him the medicines that sent him peacefully over the Rainbow Bridge. She let us say good bye in our own time - we didn't feel rushed at all. Frankie was able to go to sleep at home in his own surroundings, not afraid or anxious - so much better than going to a vet clinic. We miss him terribly, but are glad that his suffering from multiple old age ailments is over. He brought so much joy into our lives. We love the little tuft of fur tied up in the purple ribbon and the paw print. Thank you, Dr. Alecia, for all you did! We are so glad we discovered Lap of Love!"Kristen and Craig NelsonHoffman Estates, IllinoisMay 3, 2017

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kristina Kalivoda, DVM"Dr. Kristina was simply wonderful with us yesterday. I was very emotional, and Dr. Kristina was caring, sensitive, and even shared some laughs with us. She was flexible, as I asked to carry Taffy from our house to her car after she had passed, and Dr. Kristina welcomed that. Taffy's passing seemed graceful, easy, peaceful, loving, and comfortable thanks to her. Taffy probably would have picked Dr. Kristina and this Lap of Love method if she were able to talk to us. Thank you, Dr. Kristina! You made our pain and healing that much easier."Anna WeinsteinWilmette, IllinoisMarch 30, 2017Taffy Apple's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kristina Kalivoda, DVM"I had to make the most difficult decision of my life for my sweet Max three days ago. I can't believe how wonderful and compassionate these people are and how calming Dr. Kristina was for me and my sweet Maxwell. Max was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago and had one chemo treatment, but it didn't seem to be working. He stopped eating and in my heart I knew another chemo treatment would be just too hard on him. He was 13.

Dr. Kristina confirmed I was making the right choice and explained in detail why when she examined him. The relief I felt knowing I was making the right decision for my boy calmed me down and I knew I was giving my precious boy a wonderful gift. Believe me, I wasn't sure I could do it. How much I was going to miss him sleeping on my head each night and greeting me at the door each day, plus many other wonderful things I'm missing at this moment. I called Lap of Love and Dr. Kristina was out at my home the next day. I was so moved how calming and peaceful this whole process was from start to finish. There was no stress for Max and he went knowing his mom was right by his side. Hysterical, but by his side.

These people are a godsend and I would highly recommend not going to vet for this - I never will again.

Thank you Lap of Love for making this difficult time a little bit easier and I know Max thanks you as well.

See you at the bridge Max.

Thank you Dr. Kristina so so much.

Kristy"

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kristina Kalivoda, DVM"From start to finish the entire team at Lap of Love was kind and compassionate. When Dr. Kristina arrived she was so calming and nice. She explained everything but was also very discreet and careful not to take away from the moment as she performed her work.

I HIGHLY recommend this service for the comfort of your pet and family. Our dog was able to safe at home, on her bed in her last moments.
Thank you so much for making this experience as easy as possible."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kristina Kalivoda, DVM"While it was a very difficult decision to put my beagle Barney to sleep, Dr. Kristina did a wonderful job at making the ordeal as painless as possible and explaining all the options. Thankfully, I could tell that Barney was never in any discomfort during the procedure. Dr. Kristina could not have been more compassionate, professional, and understanding. Thank you, Lap of Love."Keith TadrowskiChicago, IllinoisMarch 10, 2017

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Juliana Lyles, DVM"Words can’t begin to express how touched I was by Dr. Juliana with Lap of Love. When we were faced with the difficult decision to choose a service for our beloved Brutus it was nearly impossible. Who can I trust? Does the doctor have any compassion? Just some of the questions I was contemplating when forced to make such a terrible decision. It was Sunday morning when most veterinarian clinics are closed. Cancer and chemotherapy hospitalized Brutus for 24 hours. Upon discharge Brutus was completely dehydrated and refused to eat for 4 days. Dr. Juliana with Lap of Love responded to my call within a few hours Sunday evening. Unfortunately we lost Brutus before I could talk to her. After speaking with Dr. Juliana, I was completely amazed with her compassion for our family during this difficult time. Dr. Juliana took it a step further with a hand written card and completely confirmed my first impression of her and our conversation. I didn’t think someone could be so kind and compassionate for someone they never met. With just a short conversation and a card Dr. Juliana with Lap of Love has truly touched me forever."Mo BrachBartlett, IllinoisMarch 8, 2017
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kristina Kalivoda, DVM"Dr. Kristina was a calming presence from the moment she stepped through our door. She was well informed about the particulars of Sparky's case and assured me that I was making the right decision. I really appreciated that she told me that without being asked. From there, she calmly and smoothly took us through the process. Although she kept things moving along, I never felt like we were being rushed. She showed a genuine interest in Sparky and asked us lots of questions about him. She also explained to us what she was doing each step of the way and what Sparky would be feeling. All in all, Dr. Kristina made a very difficult experience about as positive as it could possibly be. Thank you Dr. Kristina - we are so grateful that you were with us that night."Julie DonatelliPark Ridge, IllinoisMarch 7, 2017Sparky's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kristina Kalivoda, DVM"Dr. Kristina was so compassionate and loving during this very difficult and sad time for our family. Even when my husband called her to say that it was time, she was reassuring and patient with our indecision. When she came to our home, Gracie didn't even wag her tail or acknowledge her when Dr. Kristina spoke to her so she explained that this too was a sign that Gracie was suffering and "ready" to go. It was very hard to watch Gracie die but knowing that she was in her favorite spot surrounded by her loving family, made the process easier. Dr. Kristina spoke quietly and lovingly to Gracie as she explained what would happen and then let us hug and pet Gracie until we were ready to let her take Gracie away. We can't thank her enough!!!!!"carol Hoefercrystal lake, IllinoisMarch 6, 2017Gracie's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kristina Kalivoda, DVM"After 19 years of companionship, the time had come. This was the first time I had to euthanize a pet and I was very anxious about the process. I found the Lap of Love website so helpful. It answered most of my questions surrounding this sad time.
But Dr. Kristina was the real gift...she came right when we were scheduled and explained everything so clearly. She helped Kitty move painlessly and peacefully from life to death. She is an extremely gifted veterinarian but also a gifted human being. I could not have asked for more...she gave our beautiful Kitty a peaceful transition and was very sensitive to how difficult this is for us owners.. Dr. Kristina, please continue to share your gift with others who are going through this difficult time. I hope you know how much I appreciated all you did for Kitty and for me."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Juliana Lyles, DVM"Pet euthanasia service is something that you never desire to use although it is often times inevitable when you have a pet. After our beloved lab mix, Logan, was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, we knew that our time together would be a few short months at most. We knew when that dreaded day came that we would have to say goodbye to our "dog child" that it would not be easy. Our hearts told us that the only way to spend our final moments together would be in the comforts of home with him surrounded by his toys and loved ones. After contacting a number of veterinarians that offered at-home service, Lap of Love was by far the most responsive and patient with our questions and concerns.
When the day came that Logan gave us the indication that he had lived life to the fullest and that he was ready to cross the rainbow bridge, we contacted Lap of Love. Dr. Michelle greeted us with a warm embrace and she could tell that it was an incredibly emotional day for our family. Her compassion and loving care with Logan was helpful to allow him to be comfortable with a stranger. She was patient with us while we embraced our treasured last moments with him. Dr. Michelle was a great listener as we told her Logan's life story. Before she began the sedation process, she let us have as much time as we needed with him to say our final goodbyes.
Dr. Michelle gave us step-by-step details of what she was doing until she informed us that his heart had finally stopped (which he held out as long as he could). She was genuine in her understanding about how terribly difficult this situation was for us. Her ability to express empathy and sympathy really helped us when we needed it the most. Dr. Michelle somehow made this excruciatingly painful process a little more bearable.
After the process was over, she provided us with a wealth of information about dealing with pet loss which was very helpful. We are grateful for her taking as much time as we needed, before, during and after the process to help us deal with the situation. To our surprise, later that day we received a eulogy from Dr. Michelle via email (and again later via mail). Unbeknownst to us, during those final moments Dr. Michelle had listened intently to everything we had said about Logan's life. She discussed many of the highlights of his life along with how much he was loved and how he will be forever missed. As hard as it was to read, she did a phenomenal job and it's something we'll forever cherish. It truly takes a special person to do what she does and she does it well.
Losing a family member is never easy although Lap of Love allowed us to say goodbye in a loving environment. Although there is never a happy ending in this situation, being able to spend those final moments with a dog we so dearly loved in the peace and comfort of his home producing the least amount of stress on all of us most importantly to him, is something we feel very fortunate to have had access to. Thank you Lap of Love for all that you do and for your follow through on how we're doing. Your services make this world a better place."
