Helping Families Honor the Lives Of Those They Love
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Heather Manfredi, DVM"Dr. Heather was so compassionate with our Shea girl! She took the time to talk to us about everything that she was going to do in order for Shea to receive her angel wings. Dr. Heather was so sweet and I would highly recommend her for when the time is right for your pet to receive their angel wings. Thank you again for everything. XO

Mary Hurst"

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Dawnetta Woodruff, DVM"Our dog, Trouble, was always terrified at the vet's office and would work herself into a panic while there, even on a good day. After she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 12, I started planning for her final moments; I didn't want her last experience to be that of fear. I had already heard of Lap of Love from some acquaintances in the rescue community, and decided that was the path we would take so that Trouble wouldn't have to be scared when she passed on.

In the end, it was the right choice for that reason and so many others. Trouble held on for almost a year after her diagnosis, but as cancer progressed, she would have problems breathing if she got too excited. I can't imagine how hard it would have been for her to breathe through her terror if we had gone to the vet for this. But I hadn't stopped to consider how much better it would be for us, too. We didn't have to sit in a waiting room, trying not to cry as we waited to see the vet. There were no pitying stairs from other customers, who would see us waiting with our dog and know what we were there to do, then again as they would see us leaving without her. There was no driving home, trying to see through the tears.

From talking to Donna on the phone to set up the appointment, to the hug Dr. Woodruff gave us as she left our home after it was all over, we could not have asked for an easier experience. No one wants to have to say goodbye to their pet, but Lap of Love made it as painless as it could be, for Trouble and for us."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Sally Lynch, DVM"Oh Gizmo...you were just an amazing cat. You were a silly boy, a food lover, a cuddler and a lap cat. You came into our lives two weeks after the loss of Lyndsay's 19 1/2 year old cat Tawni, and you mended our broken hearts. You were part Maine Coon and part Tabby, and your huge mits (paws) could catch flies and put them directly into your mouth! You were also so in tune with us. You knew when we were sick or were having a bad day, and you were always there, right on our laps or cuddling up on the bed. You reached out with your paw to touch us sometimes; you were such a connected boy! And you could roll over on command, almost like a dog! We so miss your head at the top of the stairs when we get home, and miss your chatter throughout the day. You were the most talkative cat that I've ever met, and you had - and still have - a huge fan club! You were sooooo handsome. And mostly you brought joy to our lives every single day, even when you were begging for food in the kitchen or leaving little "presents" around when you weren't happy with the state of your litter box (You had very high standards). You were just adorable, and we miss you every day. Dr. Sally was so kind to help bring you to the other side on November 8 when you passed on. You were tired and had done your work here. We love you so much, Gizmo. You were our little healer kitty. After you passed on at 1:49 pm, and after Dr. Sally left with your body so that you could be cremated, our bedroom was filled with tiny rainbows that weren't coming from a reflection of any kind. We can only think that that was the heavens way of saying just how special you were and are. We have your ashes here at home with us. You're just where you'd want to be: close to your mommies. We will always, always miss you. 11 years doesn't seem like enough time, but we know that your body was tired. Your mommies send you kisses. Love from your mamas, Kathy and Lyndsay."Kathy McCannWatertown, MassachusettsDecember 19, 2018

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Betsy King, DVM"Dr. Betsy,
Thanks for all of the thing you did and for guiding us through the passing of Big Boy Rex, you did not rush us in saying our goodbyes and making everything easy on us. Even when we put Rex in the car you waited until we said our final goodbye's.
Thank you."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Jordy Merrifield, DVM"Our family was so blessed to happen upon an adorable 7 week old calico kitten in 2001, cold and wet, scared and lonely at our local humane society shelter. We felt so blessed that we could bring her to our home and name her Abby June. 4 years later we were blessed with the sweetest 5 month old black lab mix that needed a home and we named Penny. She had the enormous heart that is so typical of a Labrador. So kind and caring, always with a smile on her face.

As the two of grew older they became the best of friends, inseparable. We were so blessed to have them for almost 18 and 14 years , which made it all the harder to make the difficult decision to let them go. The day I realized I had to make the call and inquire about Lap of Love’s services was one of the most difficult calls I’ve ever had to make.

A very kind woman named Amanda answered the phone and I could hardly speak. It was so difficult to stop crying enough for her to understand me. She was so kind and patient. I was so grateful to her. We were able to set up the appointment for a few days later. Those days were so difficult, but my daughter and I spent as much quality time with Abby and Penny as possible.

When the dreaded day came, Dr. Merrifield arrived at our door. My heart sunk into my stomach. But Dr. Merrifield brought a calmness over us with her kind and gentle nature. She spent time with Penny and Abby, watching them and assessing their state of health. They were very comfortable with her, as were we. She pointed out the difficulties and health problems that presented themselves and reassured us that our decision was correct. This was comforting because I had been struggling with this decision for about 6 months. So hard to know when the time is right.

Dr. Merrifield kindly and painlessly laid our precious babies to rest. I can’t thank her enough. The good Lord sent us the very best possible scenario in Dr. Merrifield for this very difficult day. For that we are forever grateful. Now only time can heal the emptiness of their absence, but they are no longer in pain and are forever in our hearts❤️❤️"

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Brad Bates, VMD"I called Lap of Love when I knew my beloved Charlotte was in great pain . I was very unsure of my choice as I did not know any of the doctors or how they would be with my big girl. My fears were unfounded. From my first phone call to schedule my appointment I was treated with compassion and immediately knew I made the right call. When Dr. Brad came to help my Charlotte he was kind and thoughtful, he let me know each step he was taking to insure her passing was peaceful. She will be returned to me from their crematorium in a beautiful urn. Lap of Love made one of the hardest decisions of my life into a beautiful passing and I knew she was at peace and pain free when she passed. Thank you Dr. Brad and the staff at Lap of Love. You are all in my prayers and your care was simply the best."Penny CorbyCoatesville, PennsylvaniaDecember 18, 2018
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Leslie Peltier, DVM"We lost our Sweet Star in November. She had cancer and it spread so quickly. We wanted her to pass at home where she was loved. Dr. Leslie came out and helped us through what felt like an impossible decision. Everything was at our own pace. We played music and sang to Star. She got to have a Kit Kat. Dr. Leslie comforted us and helped to alleviate the guilt that we felt. We didn't want her to suffer and while she would eat and drink we saw that she wasn't able to walk well and didn't want her to be in pain. The cancer was moving so quickly that everyday was making a difference. Dr. Leslie prepared us for how she would react to shot one and shot two. As she lay sleeping in my arms my daughter read a poem. My Sweet Star was surrounded by people she loved and by her doggy sister Stella and cat brother Willie. They were able to grieve with us. She took her final breath in my arms. Star was wrapped in her new Christmas blanket and her dad carried her to the car where we said our final goodbye. On my counter there was a foot print, lock of fur and an angel with wings. Dr. Leslie checked on us the next two days. The ladies who manned the phones were so nice. Lap of Love made one of the worst days in our lives bearable and beautiful. I have many friends that do not know that this kind of service can be done. They do know because I am telling everyone who has furry kids about them. They are a blessing."Kimberly LuckhauptColumbus, OhioDecember 18, 2018
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Toby Goldman, DVM"From the first call, until I picked up my baby’s ashes, our experience with Lap of Love was exemplary. The ladies on the phone were sympathetic, professional and thorough. When Dr. Toby arrived for our consultation, he quickly and accurately determined that it was time for our little Yara to cross the Rainbow Bridge. He explained everything as it was going on, and our baby went to sleep and crossed over so peacefully. He cut a lock of her hair and took a paw print. He even brought a basket and blankets to lay her little body on when he left. A few days later we picked up her ashes, along with a beautiful collage with another paw print, lock of hair, the rainbow bridge poem and a spot for a picture. What a lovely memento.
To say goodbye to your fur baby is so hard, and Lap of Love makes it so much easier. Instead of the glare of bright lights, cold metal and the stress of being at the vet’s office, Yara was relaxed, in her own home on her own blanket, with her brother nearby.
What Dr. Toby and everyone at Lap of Love does is truly noble - thank you so much for making such a sad day a little easier to bear."

I decided I wanted to be alone when my sweet Lola ran over the rainbow bridge and my husband, family, and friends were concerned because of that but Dr. Heather being a stranger at first was the best company I could have ever imagined! It was the most painful yet beautiful experience in my life! Lola was the first animal I have ever lost and Dr. Heather walked me through every painful step with care! Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kim Bruce, DVM, CVA"We suddenly had to deal with the passing of our sweet 14yr old Viszla, Ellie. Upon calling around to a few in-home end of life caretakers, we had decided to work with Dr. Kim Bruce. She rushed over as soon as she could to ease our sweet girl out of pain. Her compassion for an animal she has never met in her life will stick with me forever. My husband and I appreciated her walking us through her process and how Ellie would be peacefully sent over the Rainbow Bridge. She allowed us to take all the time we needed and treated us along with our beloved Ellie with the utmost respect. We will always have dogs in our lives. This is the best most humane way to say goodbye to your ailing furry family members. As long as we are in this area, we will seek out Dr. Kim for our future needs. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Kim!"Tiffany JacobsLakewood, ColoradoDecember 17, 2018

Once Dr. Jo was there I became unsure if this is what I wanted to do and she helped me accept what we must do and ensured me that it was the best thing to do for him so he would no longer suffer.
