Lap of Love Veterinarian: Dawnetta Woodruff, DVM"Our sweet beagle, Katie, had been in our family for 16 loving years. I was only seven years old when we took her home, so it's safe to say she was like a sister to me. She was with me through middle school, high school and college. During her last two years with us she was battling liver cancer, and although it took a toll on her, she prevailed through her diagnosis and reached full remission. Even though our family was elated for her recovery, we knew it was only a matter of time before we would have to say goodbye.

To say this dog was loved would be an understatement. She had such a big personality, and it filled our home with constant laughter and joy. She was such a beautiful creature, with so many quirks. In those last two years, her parts began to fail slowly. Her legs lost their strength, her eyesight diminished and her hearing disappeared. Some might find those things to be disheartening, but I think they brought us closer to Katie. My mother was her primary caretaker, but I was lucky enough to take care of her on several occasions. Helping her when she needed us the most allowed us to form a stronger bond, especially because she had helped us in so many ways during her 16 years on Earth.

In June of 2017 it became increasingly clear that her time was coming to an end. It's nearly impossible to fully prepare yourself to say goodbye to such a big part of your family, but we did our best. Katie made it clear when she was ready to go. It was getting late on a Wednesday evening and we desperately began calling the folks at Lap of Love. We simply could not fathom the thought of taking her to a clinic, but there was no time to wait. She was suffering from a UTI, and we could tell she was in pain. We were so incredibly grateful when Dr. Dawnetta said she would come to our home.

When she arrived, her presence was incredibly calming. She handled the situation with such grace and dignity. It can be difficult to be so vulnerable in front of strangers, but with Dr. Dawnetta we had no trouble expressing our emotions. She was incredibly reassuring, knowledgable and kind. Our entire family felt safe and comfortable knowing she was the one taking care of our beloved beagle. After she left, it became clear how much she cares about what she does. We knew she had really listened to what we shared with her because she sent us a memorial detailing all of our favorite Katie stories, which was so touching.

From our entire family we would like to thank Dr. Dawnetta and the Lap of Love team for taking such good care of our family and our amazing dog. From the in-home care to the extra touches they provide like the paw-print molds and the beautiful box for her ashes, we could not have asked for a better way to say goodbye."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Elizabeth Gill, DVM"Dr Elizabeth was amazing. She greeted our Samee as if she had known our dog forever. She was caring, gentle and absolutely the best person for the task. The decision to euthanize a pet is never an easy decision, but she made it as pleasant as it could be. She allowed us time and didn't rush the process. Her kind demeanor and loving words will stay with us along with the memory of Samee. Thank you for providing such a great service to our beloved animals."Sandra EricksonSanford, FloridaJuly 11, 2017Samee's Pet Memorial

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Jordy Merrifield, DVM ~ Tampa"This was my service dog of 8 years and she never left my side. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't travel far from home. The service provided meant so much to all of us. The care, the consideration of all our feelings, you could not ask for more. To hold her until the last minute let me know she was in good hands of the vet and would be going over the rainbow bridge. Can't praise your service enough."m.jack kernseffner, FloridaJuly 10, 2017
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Lori Braun, DVM"Having to say goodbye to our Gus was one of the hardest decisions we have had to make. His presence in our family was a big one, and his sweet soul was seen and felt by all that he met. Dr. Lori came to help us say goodbye. She listened to our stories and showed so much love and compassion. We wanted his last day to be special and she helped make it perfect. We are heartbroken that he is gone, but so incredibly happy to have had the most perfect goodbye. Thank you Dr. Lori for being the amazing caring person that you are. You truly understand the love we have for our fur babies and the places they hold in our hearts. We are forever grateful to have had you come and help us say goodbye to Gus. Thank you so much."Kelly StarbuckStayton, OregonJuly 10, 2017Gus's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Katie Stender, DVM"I had Zena for 20 amazing years. She was my birthday present when I turned 6 years old and I adored her. She was with me through every different stage of my life and every hardship and celebration. It was heartbreaking when she started to get weaker and slow down.
My husband and I agonized for weeks about making the decision we knew was best for her, but we knew we would not have her last moments in an animal hospital.
Dr. Katie was our dream come true. She was so sweet and loving toward Zena and she really put forth every effort to explain what she was doing and gave us time to say Goodbye and to love on Zena through the whole thing. It was the most beautiful moment for our baby and I would highly recommend euthanasia from home. Zena left peaceful and in her space. Thank you so much Dr. Katie! I could not imagine a sweeter goodbye."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Brad Bates, VMD"Dr. Brad was our Earth Angel. We feel so Blessed that he was the veterinarian who assisted in releasing our dear Bodhi's soul.
We kept our home calm, peaceful and full of love for Bodhi in the day and in the hours before he passed.
Dr. Brad brought that same calm, peace and love into our home and Bodhi sensed it immediately as did we.
Thank you Dr. Brad and Lap of Love for giving our little guy the option to leave us without pain, suffering or the stress of an emergency room. We are ever grateful. Max and Anita Crandall"

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kendra L. Healy, DVM"Dr. Kendra was so kind and compassionate at a time when I was very distraught and uncertain what to do for my sick kitty. I can't say enough about the care that was given to my sweet Lilly. She handled things so beautifully, that I am sure Lilly knew she would be taken care of as sick as she was. Lap of Love Veterinarian: Matt Renaker, DVM"Dr. Matt was so gentle, patient, and loving to our sweet Duke. He explained everything to us and what to expect. It truly made things easier. Lap of Love Veterinarian: Annie Dion-Byrd, DVM"We struggled with our decision to have Mercury put to sleep because of a disease that was taking his quality of life away at a very quick pace. I decided to call Lap of Love and scheduled a consultation with possible euthanasia. I made several phone calls to the office and each person I spoke with was so compassionate and caring that I knew I had chosen the right place to help us with our decision. Dr. Annie Dion-Byrd was our vet and after her evaluation and some discussion we knew we were making the right decision. When we felt it was time she helped him fall asleep peacefully in his daddy's lap. We heard him softly snoring and he appeared to be dreaming - maybe of running once again. She gave us all the time we needed with him both before and after his passing. She was just so gentle with my big boy and so very attentive to him and us as she helped him to cross The Bridge. I can't thank her enough for helping us with this most difficult decision and for taking such good are of my Mercury.
Thank you Dr. Annie!"

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Nancy Rodriguez, DVM"Dr. Nancy Rodriguez is a gem! Her compassion and professionalism were truly comforting during some incredibly difficult moments. She allowed me ample time to make my dog's last moments special and as stress free as possible. Dr. Rodriguez personally returned my dog's ashes to me a few days later, which was such a warm way to receive my beloved pet's remains. I am so grateful for the services Lap of Love provides to pet owners."Dana MarekAugusta, GeorgiaJuly 10, 2017
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Amanda Page, DVM"I knew with Jax being ill that the day would come sooner than we would have liked to help him transition from this life. I did not want the vets office to be our last memory together. He always got stressed when he did have to go there. The anxiety I felt in making this final decision for him was overwhelming. I searched on line for someone to come to our home and Laps of Love popped up. Everyone involved with this service showed kindness and compassion. Dr. Amanda came to our home and made us and Jax feel a peacefulness. She was so supportive in what we were about to do. I can say with my whole heart it was the most beautiful experience of letting a loved one go. Dr Amanda went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable with every aspect of what was happening. She was so gentle with our Jax every step of the way. I highly recommend this service to all pet lovers. Thank you Dr Amanda"Donna AndersonNewport Coast, CaliforniaJuly 10, 2017
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Dawnetta Woodruff, DVM"We are very grateful for Dr. Dawnetta's love, patience and understanding. She explained the procedure and what was going to happen so we understood. She listened to us tell our story about our beloved dog Kate and she remembered it well when she wrote her testimonial on Facebook. She let us take all the time we needed with Kate. She gave us choices and we were made to feel comfortable in our grief. Having Kate be able to leave this life in the comfort of our home was a blessing to all. We were honored to be able to carry her out of our home so as to complete our time with us. We brought her into our home on January 3, 2009 and carried her out on July 9, 2017. We are forever thankful. We will grieve our Kate in the days to come, but Dr. Dawnetta's presence was such a help.

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Heather Manfredi, DVM"It has taken me over three months to write this. We lost our dog Ophelia and Dr. Heather was like our angel. Ophelia was our 11 year old Boston Terrier and a part of our family. The day we lost Ophelia was a rainy, stormy day. We knew she was at the end and her quality of life had changed drastically. I called Lap of Love on my lunch break in a desperate panic. I knew Ophie would never want to be at the vet in her last moments because she had so much anxiety there. The woman I spoke to listened to my every word and listened to me cry. She made me feel better and her words soothed me. I had to go back and teach my students after we had spoken, and I knew my decision was the right one. When I got home, I told my kids ( 7 and 9) that we needed to say goodbye to Ophie. They wrote her letters to say goodbye and so did I. My husband arrived home shortly after that. We made Ophie comfy and lit some candles. We pet her and kissed her and made sure she knew all that she had meant to us. Dr. Heather arrived in the pouring rain. She came to our porch and took off her rain boots. She came in our living room and immediately she felt like one of us. She laid down with Ophelia. She talked to us and comforted us. She asked us all about her and wanted to know about her whole life. I cried so much because I knew that was what Ophelia deserved. She had been the PERFECT dog. Ophelia always made us feel better when we were sad, she stayed by me through both of my pregnancies and she watched over my babies at all times. She was our first child. Dr. Heather allowed us to read our letters, then she made footprints for the children to keep, and we all got to say goodbye. I cannot tell you how special our last moments with Ophelia were. We owe it all to Dr. Heather and Lap of Love. Thank you for all that you have done for us and thank you for letting our baby girl be right here at the end. Where she belongs. Love to you all..xxxooo"andrea methvenPatchogue, NYJuly 9, 2017
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Lauren Cassady, DVM"The day that you lose your pet is one of the worst days of your life. We had originally planned to use one of the vets that had helped treat his cancer but had recently left the practice and does in-home euthanasia now. However, the day before she cancelled. A co-worker had recently had to use Lap of Love and had great things to say, so I immediately called and they were very supportive and able to schedule an appointment for the next day. Dr. Cassady was extremely professional and courteous, she talked to us about Orion and his condition, talked us through the process, and always kept us and him as her top priority. Being so late in the day I'm sure she was ready to be done, but not once did we ever feel rushed. Having to make the final decision is awful, but Dr. Cassady and Lap of Love helped make it a little easier."Tim Loop-TappAvondale Estates, GeorgiaJuly 9, 2017Orion's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Carrie Roberts, DVM"We are so very grateful for Lap of Love and the service they provide. Working up to making that first initial phone call was so difficult, but we knew right away that we were going to be in good hands. In particular, we would like to thank Dr. Carrie for making what seemed like an impossibly difficult situation so much more comfortable. She assured us we were making the best possible choice for our pet. She showed immense compassion and understanding, and guided us along through the process with her. Gordo felt extremely calm being in his own, comfortable surroundings. It was absolutely the best choice we could have made."Scott, Andrea, & Kyle FehrChesterfield, MissouriJuly 9, 2017Gordo (gordy) Fehr's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Katie Stender, DVM"Madison was so sick and when it became clear that she wasn't going to get better, I dreaded taking her back to the vet. She had been so traumatized and was in such pain that I just couldn't do it. I'm so grateful that I found this service. Dr. Katie was so kind and so knowledgeable. She put Madison immediately at ease. Additionally, I could tell by the way she knew exactly what to do and how to handle the situation that she is very experienced at this procedure. She put me at ease as well! This was by far the best way to handle a very difficult and emotional situation. In the future, I won't hesitate to euthanize other pets in this way. This is absolutely the most humane way to put your pets to sleep. I miss my cat terribly, but I'm relieved to know that she's no longer suffering. Her death was painless, and I think, very peaceful as well. She passed knowing that she was loved and cared for."Amanda EverettJacksonville, FloridaJuly 9, 2017
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Laura Porta, DVM"Dr. Laura Porta was a blessing for Lucy. She gave Lucy an amazing final month of life (after we were told she would only make it a few weeks), easing her pain enough to let her play with friends and family at our 4th of July party. When the time came to help Lucy move on, Dr. Laura went out of her way to come to our home during her day off to make sure Lucy did not suffer. Thank you so much Dr. Laura, we are forever grateful for your help and support!"Matt CleveBrighton, MichiganJuly 9, 2017Lucy's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Amy Tanis, DVM"When we decided it was time to lay our dog Tucker to rest, I knew that I wanted it to be in the comfort of his home surrounded by people (and furbabies) that loved him. From the time Amy walked in the door, she was kind and thoughtful and had a true interest and affection for our dog. She explained the process and really took her time to make us feel at ease. We talked and shared memories of our beloved while petting him and giving him treats. Her love and compassion for animals was a blessing for us during this difficult time. Amy followed up with us to see how we were doing and wrote a beautiful memorial for Tucker. She really went above and beyond to make everything seamless so that the time could be focused on Tucker. Although no one wants to think about making a decision like this, I can say without a doubt that contacting Lap of Love and having Amy in our home was by far the best decision we made for Tucker and our family."Kristeen CrawfordIndian Trail, North CarolinaJuly 9, 2017Tucker's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Amy Tanis, DVM"Dr. Amy was absolutely amazing. She made Ivey's transition so peaceful for her, but also for me. She showed so much compassion for myself and the rest of the crew at the house. She was professional and caring. I was completely reassured that I was doing the right thing. She gave us the right amount of time with Ivey during and after her road to the rainbow bridge. I have 2 older dogs and when it is their time to go I will be contacting her again. Absolutely amazing experience."Lindsay HerringtonCharlotte, North CarolinaJuly 9, 2017Ivey's Pet Memorial
