Meet the veterinarians
About Dr. Elizabeth Myrick
I was raised in a military family, and we moved around a lot in my early years. However, I spent most of my school-age years in Anniston, Alabama. I always loved animals, and my constant best friend through all of our moves was my sheepdog mix, Bear. When I was little I wanted to own a bookstore or be an animal photographer or an archeologist. I didn't consider veterinary medicine as a career option until college. Before that, I thought of it as something unattainable, like being a superhero.
I spent my undergraduate years at the University of Montevallo, majoring in biology and minoring in psychology and chemistry. I then earned my veterinary degree from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.
My favorite facets of veterinary medicine are preventive care, internal medicine, dermatology, and behavior. I love figuring out puzzles and creating the perfect treatment plan for each individual patient based on my observations.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been present when any of my pets have passed. As Bear aged, he developed severe arthritis and our family vet helped him pass at his office when I wasn’t present. I remember grieving for many months afterward. Now, I mostly remember all the funny and happy memories we had together, but I sometimes still get sad when I think about him.
My next "heart" animal was a gray tabby cat named Pounce who passed away suddenly in a tragic accident while I wasn’t home. I was really sad that I wasn't there with him. I hope that when my current heart cat, Georgie, passes I will be able to be there to hold and comfort him during his final moments. I want to give pets the opportunity to cross the rainbow bridge with as little stress as possible and comfort their families during such an incredibly sad time.
When I’m not working, I love spending time with my husband and two little boys, knitting (collecting yarn might be more accurate), reading and listening to audiobooks, strength training, and baking.
