Meet the veterinarians

About Dr. Megan Hart

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley of California, in the beautiful rocky hills of Chatsworth, surrounded by animals and hiking the trails of the West Valley. Our neighborhood was home to wild peacocks, coyotes, horses, and many other species—ideal for a child with an intense love for animals. I also enjoyed the company of many pets, including two dogs, a cat, guinea pigs, rabbits, and birds.

Despite all this, I did not grow up dreaming of becoming a vet; instead, I found my way after undergraduate school. I loved the sciences, wanted to help animals, and had empathy to share, so veterinary medicine felt like a natural fit.

As a veterinarian, my heart belongs in small animal medicine. For me, it’s not only about helping animals but also their families. My favorite parts of my job include helping animals feel better, relieving pain and suffering, and witnessing the human-animal bond.

Because I grew up with animals, I’ve had to say goodbye to many. As a child, I was present for every euthanasia except one. Not being there to say goodbye was extremely heartbreaking and made the loss even more difficult. Since then, I’ve been able to choose how I say goodbye to my pets and make their passing as peaceful as possible. Being by their side, having them hear my voice and feel my touch in their final minutes, has made those sad moments more peaceful and full of love.

Having been on both sides of pet loss, I know exactly how heartbreaking it is. As such, I am dedicated to making that time less painful and more peaceful. I want families to be able to focus on the wonderful memories they shared with their beloved pet, and take solace in knowing they passed without pain or fear.

When I’m not caring for animals, I enjoy practicing yoga multiple times a week. I love art, and I am an avid painter. I also enjoy exploring Los Angeles and all of its art galleries and museums. Lastly, my husband and I love trying new food and restaurants.
