Meet the veterinarians
About Dr. Kelly Wibel
I grew up in Pensacola, Florida but have lived in multiple U.S. states and the Caribbean. I am excited to be back in the warm, beautiful panhandle!
My path to becoming a veterinarian came from my interest in medicine and how it impacts our pets’ well-being. It is a challenging puzzle that pushes us to learn and adapt. I started my college career at Auburn University, attended veterinary school at St. George's University in Grenada, West Indies, and completed my clinical year at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
After veterinary school, I enjoyed working in an urgent care setting. Our goal was to provide convenient, high-quality medicine for pets in need and bridge the gap to their family veterinarian for continued care. In addition to my time in urgent care and relief medicine, I’ve served as a medical director, provided leadership for multiple veterinary companies, and assisted with veterinary student program development.
As a pet owner, the loss of each of my pets has left a lasting mark on my heart. As a veterinarian, I’ve been fortunate to assist my pets at home, easing their transitions and comforting my family. These experiences have shaped my passion for offering the same care to other pet families. I believe a peaceful goodbye is one of the last gifts we can give our pets, and I’m honored to provide compassion and support during this final act of love.
When I’m not caring for my patients, I love to create in the kitchen—the more exotic, the
better! I am a pastry school dropout—only because I got into vet school—but gravitate toward savory culinary treats. If I am not world traveling, I can also be found on the local hiking trails camping in my van—named Shadowfax—that I converted myself or attending a wine tasting or food festival!
About Dr. Bernadette Perez-Cantu
Growing up in a military family meant that I didn’t really have a “hometown.” I lived in 11 different cities—some more than once! One thing that was constant, no matter where I was living, was my love of animals, problem solving, and science. Pursuing veterinary medicine was a natural choice for me, and I began by working in a veterinary clinic in high school. I later worked as a veterinary technician for several years before returning to school to pursue a veterinary degree.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in animal science from Texas A&M University and my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. During my veterinary school clinical rotations, I completed a two-week externship with Lap of Love and fell in love with the compassionate euthanasia experience provided. It truly honors the human animal bond and the unconditional love between a family and their pet. In addition to end-of-life care and low-stress euthanasia, I also developed passions for behavior medicine and acupuncture.
When it came time to say goodbye to my rescue boxer—who was very fearful of veterinary visits—I asked our family veterinarian to provide an at-home euthanasia for us, and our girl passed away peacefully at home, in the arms of her family. Because of this experience, I made it my mission to provide a tranquil end-of-life experience for all families—especially those with fearful pets.
I view in-home euthanasia as a gift for pets and their families. Saying goodbye at home doesn't diminish the profound sense of loss; however, it does make the process less stressful for everyone. The familiar setting allows an optimal space for celebrating the life of a best friend during those final moments. It is truly a privilege and an honor to assist families during the end-of-life process.
When I am not helping families, I enjoy spending time with my husband and senior boxer exploring the Florida Panhandle. I also enjoy gardening, reading, cooking, spoiling my boxer, and traveling to visit family and friends.
