Meet the veterinarians

About Dr. Christina Ploog

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, and lived in the city for eight years before relocating to attend veterinary school. I have lived in Omaha, Nebraska, for over 14 years.

My path to becoming a veterinarian became clear during college. While animals had always been a passion, my time working in foster care, on a crisis hotline, and as a patient advocate at a human Medicaid-Medicare facility helped me discover an unexpected love for medicine. Veterinary medicine felt like the best way to combine my interests in helping animals and people with medicine.

I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago, then obtained my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

After veterinary school, I spent more than 14 years in zoological and exotic animal medicine. I’ve also worked in small animal emergency and critical care. Although these are very different areas of veterinary medicine, I’ve loved them both. In every role, I’ve always aimed to provide the best care for every animal and to support and educate their caretakers.

It’s important to me that pet parents understand what is happening with their animals, especially during end-of-life care. Euthanasia is a challenging subject, but when families know they are doing the best for their beloved pet, it can be a beautiful and meaningful experience.

Outside of veterinary medicine, I enjoy walking my dogs, spending time with my kids and their friends, cooking, baking, and hosting.
