Meet the veterinarians
About Dr. Deanna Harris
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have always been interested in science and medicine, and initially considered a career in the human medical field. However, I also love animals, and decided to merge that love with my interest in medicine to become a veterinarian.
I wanted to attend an out-of-state college, so I applied and was accepted to NC State University. After a year and a half, I realized I was distracted there, so I returned to Pittsburgh and finished my undergraduate degree at a small private school called Carlow College. I attended the Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine for my veterinary degree.
I've been in general practice for the majority of my career, with occasional relief work as well. I enjoy educating clients about preventive care and the reward of helping clients and pets at the hospitals I visit. I also feel that end-of-life care is a crucial aspect of the client and patient experience. It's my job to make it the best experience possible, whatever that looks like for each family.
When my 16-year-old soul dog Sophie passed, I wanted everything to be perfect for her. I fed her a Happy Meal while I euthanized her, and it’s something I will remember forever. I want that memory to be as positive as possible for other families, because I understand the impact it will have on their lives. Providing end-of-life services through Lap of Love is a special gift that I feel privileged to provide.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling to other countries to experience the culture and learn about their history. I also enjoy taking my dogs to the park, hiking, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.
About Dr. Sally Lynch
Growing up in New Orleans, Louisiana, I was the little girl who preferred the company of cats and dogs to other kids. Whether it was my neighbor's Doberman Pincher or my babysitter's collection of stray kittens, the sincere companionship and complexities of animals fascinated me even at a very young age. I started volunteering at the local humane society when I was in second grade. From that time on, my career path was clear...I wanted to become a veterinarian!
After high school, I moved to Memphis to attend Christian Brothers University where I majored in Natural Science. I quickly fell in love with the city of Memphis and was fortunate enough to work and volunteer for some of city's wonderful nonprofits including the Memphis Zoo, the Shelby County Humane Society, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. It was not long before I claimed the Bluff City as my second home!
After graduating from CBU, I completed a Master's degree in Public Health from Louisiana State University where I focused much of my research on the health benefits of the human-animal bond and pet ownership. I then moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and began my four years of veterinary school. It was a long road, and nothing felt as wonderful as finally achieving my dream of becoming a veterinarian! After vet school, I completed an internship at Nashville Veterinary Specialists where I was exposed to a variety of challenging cases and complex medical procedures. Shortly after, I moved back to Memphis and began working in small animal medicine in Cordova before joining Lap of Love in 2017. I've had the honor of helping families in both Boston and Memphis with Lap of Love, and have been welcomed by the most amazing clients and neighbors. After spending a few years in Boston, I realized that Memphis is where my heart truly lies and I am so happy to be back "home."
Despite being so enamored with animals as a child, I was not able to get my first dog until I was 13 years old, and on that very special birthday, I was handed a tiny, black puppy... I immediately burst into tears of joy! Rocko and I had many adventures together throughout my young adult life, and being his pet parent taught me more than I could have imagined about responsibility, friendship, and, above all, unconditional love. We spent many years walking our neighborhood together, and with every mile, he listened to me talk through my hopes and dreams, my concerns, and my fears. I know that everyone says this about their dog, but he was the best...a piece of my past, and a piece of my spirit...always.
