Helping Families Honor the Lives Of Those They Love

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Jenn Roedig, DVM"Sometimes you find a person who is a perfect fit for their craft, both in their expert execution of their job duties but, more importantly, in how they do them. Dr. Jenn is one such person. She made our difficult decision to euthanize our Skippy a logical and caring choice. She reinforced to us that euthanasia is the most caring and thoughtful gift that we can give to our pet. After she gave Skippy the first injection to sedate her, Dr. Jenn sat and listened to our family recount the memories we had during 14 years with our pet. These were memories that I'm sure she had heard hundreds of times before from other clients. She listened, responded, and engaged as any family friend would have, even though we had only met her 15 minutes before. I had envisioned that I would be a blubbering mess during this time, but I was not, totally due to Dr. Jenn. I'm sure that other vets give the same medications to pets during this process. Dr. Jenn's ability to make the family members understand the process and feel at ease is invaluable.

I have and will continue to recommend Lap of Love and, specifically, Dr. Jenn to others who need this service. I cannot rate her highly enough."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Abra Osorio, DVM"Dr. Abra Osorio was a loving and caring Professional.
She was so gentle with Our Kip. We were so apprehensive of what would take place. The integrity of the care of Kip was outstanding. He crossed over peacefully. Kip was then placed in a lovely basket and covered with a blanket. Saddened but Dr. Abra offered us great comfort and explained all that would take place for the rest of the journey. We walked with him to the car and gave our last kisses to of beloved Kip.
Our warmest Thank you to Dr. Abra."

Thank you, Dr. Lauren.

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Brad Bates, VMD"It is hard to find the words for how much we appreciate the service Lap of Love provides and the compassionate care and expertise of Dr. Brad Bates.

Our 14 year-old female tabby, Bee, was suffering with an untreatable cancerous mass in her mouth. We saw her decline quickly over a period of days and we could not help ease her pain. Dr. Brad came to our home on a Sunday, he had read all of the background materials we had sent (from our vet and oncologist) and spent the time to answer all of our questions regarding Bee’s cancer, her symptoms, behavior and prognosis. He then spent time with Bee and talked through with us all of our options. He did not push us in any direction and when we came to the conclusion that euthanasia was the most humane course of action (she couldn’t eat or drink) he was so very helpful and supportive.

For us to be able to spare Bee the trauma of another vet visit and for her to go sleep free of pain surrounded by the things and people she loved was priceless. We also now have a very clinical understanding of her suffering - this has been helping us immensely as we’ve been dealing with the loss, we know we did the best thing for her (even though it was the hardest for us).

We are so grateful to Lap of Love and Dr. Brad Bates."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Elizabeth Gill, DVM"I found Lap of Love on Google and contacted them via a form at 10pm and they had Taylor contact me and set everything up before the night was up for my beloved dog Lucy. She asked questions and even told me Lucy's orange fur sounded so beautiful. She and Bethany helped me and were very friendly and calming and told me to have a peaceful evening. This is exactly the phone service you need during this time.

On the day of Lucy's passing we had Dr. Elizabeth Gill who came out to assist us. She walked in the door and immediately got on the floor to greet Lucy who was waiting by the door. She asked some questions about Lucy's condition and called her "mama" and pet her and gave her love. Lucy instantly felt calmed by her. She sat and explained everything from the floor by our front door and I really liked that she instantly talked to Lucy and got down to her level right upon entering. After she discussed with us what would happen, she gave me a pamphlet which I put on the counter because I was in no condition to see anything, but I later will write how much this pamphlet meant to both of us.

Dr. Gill asked where we wanted Lucy's final moments to be, and we chose upstairs by the balcony door that she loved to look out from her dog bed. She gave us time as I read a letter I wrote for Lucy and all the time we needed before administering a sedative to calmly make her fall asleep. We opened the bedroom balcony door and let the breeze come inside and feel like Lucy was outside from the comfort of her bed. As Dr. Gill administered the sedative she told us it may take 10 minutes for her to become sleepy but she will slowly doze off and she pet her the entire time with us and gave her comfort and love just like we were and she felt part of the family. She comforted the two of us as we cried and even got us tissues. We told Lucy how much she was loved as she went from awake and fully alert to drowsy and then eventually sleepy as her eyes closed and she lowered her head. Dr. Gill then confirmed she was asleep by touching her paws and the moving her fingers between her paw pads to make sure she wasn't going to only be slightly sleepy and that she wouldn't feel any pain and she checked her eyes while she touched her paws to make sure Lucy was fully asleep. Lucy had a slight snore to her as she was in her sleep. Dr. Gill told us that whenever we were ready she would administer the final thing that would help our Lucy on her journey home. As she administered it she spoke to Lucy like we would and pet her and comforted her with us as we cried and said our Goodbye's to Lucy and reminded her how good of a girl she was over all the years, it was so sad but Dr. Gill was very comforting and so calm and loving during Lucy's final moments. Lucy didn't react during the euthanasia product, she breathed normally and took a final breath and she stopped. After a minute or so she checked for her heart rate and listened to her chest and confirmed that Lucy had passed on... She then shaved a fur sample and put it in a container for us to keep. She also took her paw and created a beautiful clay imprint of her paw after she had passed...

I cannot express how peaceful this was. This was a very hard decision for us and this was so peaceful for Lucy and I couldn't have asked for a better setting or person to help us.

After Lucy had passed she left us alone for a few minutes and went to her vehicle to get a stretcher to take her downstairs. We helped move Lucy from her bed to the stretcher and she had a beautiful purple blanket with dogs on it (and I cannot express how thankful I was that it was a soft plush blanket and not a basic sheet) that she covered her with, and she strapped her in. I asked her if we cover her head and she told me "no, I like to leave their head uncovered so it's like she is sleeping". She asked for help down the stairs with Lucy since she was a large dog, and we insisted that we carry her out of the home on the stretcher as we brought her into the home and would like to be the ones to lead her out. We commented that Lucy's ears had perked up after her passing and Dr. Gill expressed that "I'd like to think that it's from the excitement of her new surroundings". We loaded Lucy into the car and she allowed us to say our final goodbye's and she gave us both a hug. We waved goodbye and she waved back as she left with Lucy.

This process was very peaceful, and loving. I couldn't thank Dr. Elizabeth Gill enough!! After she left, we sat down and read their after care pamphlet which was so nice and filled with poems and a letter in first person style from your pet and it was the most beautiful letter ever, we cried happy tears while reading this and everything in the pamphlet was written by Lap of Love staff and people. It was so comforting, and not something you read when you're handed it but afterwards reading it was beautiful! Even their receipt was itemized as "angel wings" as the service provided to Lucy which is truly what she was given. They included a certificate of passing saying that Lucy had left this world on today's date, and it was worded so sweet and peaceful. Thank you so so so much, you have no idea how much I appreciate your team and Dr. Gill! This was the first pet I've had to say goodbye to and I truly couldn't have asked for a better more kinder, and sensitive person to assist our girl in her final moments."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Jessica Boden, DVM"I prayed that when the time came, I would know. Yesterday morning when Kobi was hurting, I knew what we needed to do as a family, which was to give Kobi the kind of goodbye he so deserved. Prior to calling Lap of Love, I had placed other calls to places that didn't seem to understand the gravity and heartbreak we were feeling. But I called Lap of Love and Tiffany's calm and caring voice helped us to make this hard choice. We could not have done this without the help of Dr. Jessica Boden, who was so kind, trustworthy, empathetic, and most importantly, she understood the love we had for our sweet boy. And her thoughtful email that followed, along with her encouragement to share with others here. Thank you for giving us the chance to say goodbye in peace, and in the comfort of our home. And thank you for doing what you do."Anna KimDallas, TexasDecember 12, 2018Kobi's Pet Memorial

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Toby Goldman, DVM"When I decided to finally put my best friend Charlie to rest, I had their number sitting in front of me for 2 days before I had the nerve to call. As I was talking to the woman who set the appointment I began crying. She was so attentive and understanding that even at my worst she helped me push through. On the day Charlie was to be laid to rest, Dr. Goldman showed up at the time he was to be there. He talked us through the process and made us feel very confident in my decision. As I laid my head on my dogs head he was very thoughtful and let me have my time with my dog. He made sure that I was ready for him to give him the final shot and left the room so that I could have one more moment with him. Thank you for helping me get through the morning and taking the best care of his final hour."Lee CraverLas Vegas, NevadaDecember 12, 2018
