There are moments in life that break you in ways you never expect—and in those moments, the people who show up matter more than words can ever express. We are endlessly grateful to Lap of Love, and especially to Dr. Briana, for the compassion they showed our family during one of the hardest days of our lives. We were traveling from North Carolina to Wisconsin, stopping in Dayton to spend time with family, when our sweet boy Blue began to rapidly decline. He had been bravely battling laryngeal paralysis, but in a short time, we watched the light in him begin to fade. The joy that once defined him was replaced with pain, fear, and respiratory distress. As much as we wanted more time, we knew we couldn’t allow him to suffer for even a moment longer. In the midst of heartbreak and uncertainty, Dr. Briana came to our Airbnb—and from the moment she arrived, everything about her presence brought a sense of peace. She was quiet, gentle, and deeply compassionate. She didn’t rush us. She didn’t overwhelm us. She simply met us exactly where we were in our grief. She spoke to Blue with such kindness, treated him with dignity, and allowed us the space to love him through his final moments. Her calming nature wrapped around all of us, making the most painful goodbye feel as peaceful and beautiful as it possibly could be. Because of her, Blue was able to pass surrounded by love, in a place that felt safe, with his family holding him close. That is a gift we will carry with us forever. There is no easy way to say goodbye to a soul dog—but thanks to Lap of Love and Dr. Briana, our goodbye was filled with grace, compassion, and an overwhelming sense of peace. From the bottom of our hearts… thank you for helping us give Blue the ending he deserved.
