This is the first time ever after countless pets over the years that I have had someone come here to my home to help with the end. Jessie was my beloved best friend and the sweetest dog ever and I could not stand the thought of trying to get her into a car to go someplace and never come home again. Dr. Hilary is remarkable. Literally from the very first step into my home my anxiety and the anxiety of my other pets went way down. She is calm, kind and engaged. She wanted to talk about my animals and to get to know Jessie before the end. She was affectionate with Jessie and kind to the other ones. She helped me understand that that day was truly the right time. She explained absolutely everything and did nothing until I was ready. There is absolutely nothing easy about this process, but Dr. Hilary, while openly acknowledging that, made it feel loving, gentle, unrushed and humane. This was what I wanted for Jessie’s end.
We were so overwhelmed with grief yesterday that we didn’t get the chance to thank you properly. Thank you so much for the incredible kindness, patience, and gentleness you showed to Apollo and our family. Having you come to the house so that Apollo couple spend his final moments with us in his home, meant the world to us. We are all still incredibly heartbroken. Apollo was our family. We loved him unconditionally and he loved us. I think you could see his body was finished but his spirit was strong. He fought to the end, but I know in my faith he is still with us. He moved on to a place where he can still be with us, a beautiful Angel looking down on us and guiding each one of us. He was and always will be the best gift given to our family. Thank you for making the last moment for Apollo as peaceful and comforting as it possibly could be. We are so grateful for your time.
Sunday my sweet Sadie crossed the rainbow bridge with the help of Dr. Sam. I was so fortunate as Dr. Sam Counts had worked for a number of years at the veterinary practice I have taken all my rescue cocker spaniels to for 30 yrs. She remembered seeing Sadie several times and remembered my late husband Michael and myself. I am a retired social work of 45 yrs, 8 of those years I was a hospice social worker, and the care and attention Dr. Sam gave to Sadie, myself and my other dog Wally was in the very best tradition of hospice care. Sadie was so at ease. Dr. Sam and I spoke and she was so affirming and supportive of my choice to let Sadie go while her good days were still more than her bad days. I rescued Sadie when she was two and a half years old in 2013. When she passed she had mid-stage dementia, a collapsing trachea and a heart condition. She was still enjoying treats, going on two to three walks a day, playful and full of life at 16 yrs old. However, her periods of disorientation at night leading to panic attacks that caused her to cough violently and pant were increasing. Dr. Sam was so supportive of my decision. The actual euthanasia procedure was done with great patience and so gently. Sadie showed no fear or even discomfort, she just fell asleep. Dr. Sam gave Wally and I the time we needed after Sadie passed to sit with her. When we were ready she put Sadie in a basket, covered her with a beautiful lavender plush blanket and then I carried her in the basket to Dr. Samʻs car and put her in. I highly recommend Lap of Love. I have done rescue for many years. Sadie was my eighth cocker spaniel I have had to euthanize. As much as I love my vet, when the time comes for Wally, may it be in the way distant future, I will be using Lap of Love again. Sincerely, Jason Lindo and Wally
