Meet the veterinarians
About Dr. Carol Springs
I was born in Sacramento, California, but as the daughter of an Air Force veterinarian, I lived in Texas, Germany, Colorado, and Illinois (and Texas again) before returning to my dad's home state of South Carolina. Growing up, our family always included a cat and I have been interested in caring for animals since childhood.
I completed my undergraduate studies at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina and veterinary school at the University of Georgia, graduating in 1992. After vet school, I returned to upstate South Carolina, and have lived here ever since.
I enjoyed working in a clinical setting for 31 years, and especially the long-term relationships I developed with clients and their pets. I enjoy seeing the pets as puppies and kittens through adulthood and then "seniorhood."
It has been my honor to serve clients and their pets when it’s time to decide about end of life care. At one time, I was able to perform in-home euthanasias for my clients, but as the practice grew busier, the appointment schedule no longer allowed me to serve my clients in this way. I have seen the need for this type of service increase in the Greenville area as the population has grown.
I had to euthanize my own pet, Boudreaux, when he was 15 after unexpectedly discovering he had a splenic tumor. I was basically given time to euthanize him in the morning before appointments started, and was expected to then get on with my day. Providing in-home euthanasia allows me to give families the time they need to fully experience their pet’s last moments. I feel this is a final kindness I can offer the pet and the people who love them.
As a person of faith, I feel that we have been placed in the position of stewards for the earth and the animals in our care. I see euthanasia as an act of service that I can offer pets when their bad days outnumber their good days.
When I'm not working, I enjoy reading a good book or cooking (I’m a bit of a cookbook junkie). I live in a beautiful part of the Carolinas and also enjoy a good day trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains to enjoy the waterfalls or the charm of the many nearby towns.
